Last Tuesday afternoon, an informal information session regarding abroad opportunities for Providence College graduates was held by Joseph Stanley, the dean of global education. During the information session, students were informed about the process of applying to graduate schools abroad as well as the process of applying to the Fulbright Program. While the event was mainly advertised to students who studied abroad during their time at the College, all students were welcome to attend. This provided students with the occasion learn about moving abroad—a viable option for those who are uncertain about their future. The film industry experienced a melancholy and nostalgic moment last week, as what is possibly Robert Redford’s final acting performance, in The Old Man & the Gun, reached screens on Sept. 28. Redford, who has been discussing the idea of retiring his acting career since 2016, announced his intent to retire in August, although doubt has since been cast on this statement. Based on a true story, the dramatic comedy The Old Man & the Gun tells the story of Forrest Tucker, a gentlemanly bank robber who escapes from San Quentin prison at the age of 70. The ever-polite Forrest then goes on to pull off a string of heists that confound authorities and enchant the public. Lea Palmieri of Decider.com speaks on the show’s second season as having an ability that allows viewers “to witness all the shenanigans for themselves,” and “to watch a genuine father-son relationship realized right in front of their eyes.” Season 2 is arguably even more profound because the relationship dynamics between the father and son pair have been clearly defined in the first set of episodes. Jack acknowledges the importance of spending as much time as he possibly can with his father, who is 78 years old. by Madeline Weaver-Nolting ’19 A&E Staff FILM

One of the darkest villains of all time is about to get his own movie. Actor Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in the Warner Bros. newest film, Joker. With big shoes to fill, including Jack Nicolson and the late Heath Ledger, there is a lot of pressure on Phoenix to fulfill the iconic role. The DC Universe movie is also very important to the DC franchise because it is one of the first stand-alone movies that does not intersect with the rest of the DC Universe. If Joker does well, DC may shift its focus towards making stand-alone movies. The movie is supposed to be an origin story about the Joker. Warner Bros. describes the movie as “an exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.” The Joker has been in several Batman movies and in Suicide Squad, but this is the first time that he has ever been featured in his own movie. Now, fans will gain insight into how he became one of the most disturbing and diabolical masterminds in cinematic history. Audiences will see how the Joker became the Joker. Instead of running away from the darkness, Joker is said to embrace it. CinemaBlend says, “This version of Joker is originally about a man named Arthur Fleck, who is reportedly a stand-up comedian that turns to PHOTO COURTESY OF PAGE SIX a life of crime after being ostracized by society.” This Joaquin Phoenix seeks to emphasize a part of the Joker previous films failed to reveal. is a different Joker than ever shown before. Faces are passing People are moving I do not recognize these faces I may never see them again But for just a second they were in my head And now they are gone

Everywhere we go, we see strangers Sometimes we run into them again Sometimes we make friends of them But for those we don’t, do you think they’ll remember us? Every stranger has their own life Who are the strangers we remember? A life we will never know Why do we remember them? We all have families, we all have stories Is it their appearance or their voice? Some look happy, but are struggling with an internal battle Do we remember their smile or their laugh? Some have had the best day of their life, others the worst Every stranger has a story that is much deeper than what we see in front of us Maybe it is one’s birthday

Do strangers wonder about me when they see me passing by? Do I make any one look twice? Or am I just a face in a crowd Along with the seven billion other faces that roam this earth

Some strangers stay in our minds, but only for a few days Until they are just a face we saw And a face we forgot

But to all those faces I have forgotten I hope you’re living the story I’ll never know about Because I’ll be out there living mine too. PHOTO COURTESY OF FUJIXMAD.PHOTO City Walking by Connor Zimmerman ’20 Portfolio Staff CREATIVE NON-FICTION
