Falkirk FC Players to 1938/39 Notes The debut given here is for the first match they were noted, regardless of level, ie mostly friendlies. In the early days it was always easier to list the exact position of players who played in 'big' matches, often the friendlies only gave the score, or just a 'potted' review, not giving the complete line-up, where I have been able I have put the regular position of players who never played in the Scottish Cup or the Scottish League This same fact means that any debut given is completely unreliable before 1905 [and it is still quite dicey after 1905], even when I know the score, it doesn't mean I know who played [or who scored] For the club honours I have only included those players who played in the relevant finals, as those were the only players given medals [and some of the line-ups for the early rounds are unknown]. For League Honours, different leagues have different rules about who are eligible for a medal, when I don't know better I have added anybody who has played in 50% or more of the matches [however I have found this difficult as it ranges between 3 games in the first Falkirk & District League and 19 in the Scottish League] Birth places are often given not by city, town or village, but by parish as that was how it was sometimes recorded. In the career clubs part, I have tried to keep them in some sort of chronological order, but this was not always possible, so is not completely reliable. Clubs in italics were Junior Clubs [I have not even tried to track career as a Junior]. Up until 1905 and the building of Falkirk Royal Infirmary, the Falkirk Infirmary Shield was called the Falkirk Cottage Hospitals Shield, but I have always used the later name here. Often a player was listed under several different spellings, where this has happened I have noted all the variants I came across, unless the name stated comes from any official records found. The sources which allowed this to happen were manifold, but in all truth most of it came from the Falkirk Mail & the Falkirk Herald [mostly th Faalkirk Mail] Few photographs of the team and the players exist from the 25 years before joining the league, and some that do exist do not indicate who the players are. I have tended toward the best available pictures of the playes whilst they were Falkirk players [eg I used a grainy picture of a 16 year old John Drummond, when there are much better photographs of him with Rangers & Scotland]. If I could not find a picture of a player with Falkirk I have gone for the closest [chronologically] picture with another club, or left it blank. I apologise for the quality of some of the photos, but I had little to work with...... I am a firm believer that I will eventually find it ALL out, but god knows from where!!!! All I cn do otherwise is apologise, I must have put many mistakes [all unintentiaonal, but they happen] John E Meffen Falkirk FC Players to 1938/39 Players - A James Adam Debut – Wednesday August 10th 1912 v Denny Select XI (H) Benefit Position – Goalkeeper Known Career – East Stirlingshire [1904/05-1905/06], Queen's Park [1905/06-1911/12], Falkirk [1912/13] John Adam Debut – Saturday December 7th 1878 v Petershill (H) Friendly Positions – Half-Back Known Career – Falkirk [1878/79] George Adam Debut – Monday May 5th 1902 v Dundee (H) Friendly Positions – Back Known Career – Falkirk Amateurs, Falkirk [1901/02] William Adams Debut – Saturday April 3rd 1915 v King's Park (A) Stirlingshire Cup Final Positions – Right-Half Club Honours – Stirlingshire Cup RU 1914/15 Known Career – Grange Rovers, Falkirk [1914/15], East Stirlingshire [1921/22-1922/23] ????
