GRADUATION CHECKLIST

In preparation for graduation, there are 5 important items I would like to bring to your attention:

(1) GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Before finalizing registration for the spring semester 2013, please be certain to confirm that you will have fulfilled all your requirements for graduation by completion of the spring semester. If you are a December 2012 graduate, please confirm completion of all requirements before the end of the spring Add/Drop period. If you graduated in August 2012 you will have completed this already.

(2) APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION Each student who expects to graduate in December 2012 or May 2013 must fill out a “Graduation Application Form” in his/ her Dean’s Office. Diplomas are ordered on the basis of these applications. Applications should have been submitted during senior clearance process for the spring semester.

(3) CAPS & GOWNS Caps, gowns, and hoods required for graduation must be purchased and picked up from Jostens at Georgetown University Bookstore, 2nd level during Grad Salute and Senior Parents Weekend (February 1-3) or the week prior to Commencement in May. Again this year, the University is offering “green” or eco-friendly gowns and hoods. The cost of the complete academic regalia package is $84.00. Some seniors may still have the gowns that they wore during their New Student Convocation. If so, you may elect to purchase only the cap, tassel and hood for graduation. The price for these three pieces is $52.00.

3 Representatives from Jostens will be available to sell and distribute the academic regalia throughout the weekend during the following bookstore hours.

If students are unable to purchase academic regalia during Grad Salute in February, then they must do so between May 13th and May 18th.

Monday, May 13 – Friday, May 17 9:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M. Saturday, May 18 (Graduation Day) 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.

(4) GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENTS AND THE SENIOR SURVEY Faculty members and deans find that student feedback is a very important source of information in deciding how to improve the education, programs, and services provided by the University. They also want to know about the plans seniors have made for their years after graduation. Each year as graduation approaches, Georgetown seniors are asked to complete a survey assessing their college experience here. The Senior Survey offers graduates the opportunity to rate various aspects of their college education, and invites their suggestions on how to make the Georgetown experience a more positive one for the students who come after them.

We know that the weeks before graduation are extremely busy ones for seniors. In an effort to make the survey as convenient as possible, we will place it online early in the spring semester. We encourage seniors to complete the survey early to have it out of the way before the crunch of graduation activities crowds their schedule.

As a token of appreciation, those who complete the Web survey will receive a free packet of ten official Georgetown University graduation announcements, with school specific information showing date, time, and location of commencement events. Announcements will be distributed upon completion of the survey by the Office of Assessment and Decision Support. Samples will be on display at the Georgetown University Bookstore. Personalized graduation announcements may be ordered through the Georgetown University Bookstore from Jostens.

(5) STUDENT ACCOUNTS The University’s policy is that any student with an unpaid balance will not receive a diploma or transcript until the account is settled. For seniors there will be a special billing in April. Please check the status of your account in early May to make certain that the account is clear. All outstanding balances, such as library fines, room damage charges, and parking tickets must be paid by 12 noon on Friday, May 17, 2013. The Student Accounts Office will not be open Commencement Weekend. Please be sure that your account has been cleared by that date so that you will receive your diploma on the 18th. Student Accounts can be reached at (202) 687-7100.
