Each chapter has discussion questions provided in a later section. Through reading the book and completing any of the suggested activities, students can achieve any number of the following understandings: - Memory is not automatic – humans make conscious and unconscious choices about how they remember the past. - Identity is formed in contrast and reaction to other people. - The dead are lost twice – once when they die, and once when they are forgotten.
