Glenwood Senior Adult Center Director Tammy Cogburn received an e-mail in May from the Department of Parks and Tourism challenging the seniors at the center to visit a state park here in Arkansas each week from June 1 through August 31. The Center here gladly took up the challenge as Cogburn set aside time to make arrangements at each of the 14 parks they chose to visit. Cogburn stated she talked with park interpreters at each location so those people could come up with ideas to entertain and educate the seniors who could make the trips. “Every state park we visited, our seniors were treated with respect and catered to in such a wonderful manner,” continued Cogburn. “Every park went out of their way to develop presen- tations which they felt would be interesting to our seniors.” “The groups visited five state parks with lakes, and we were treated to a lake tour on three of the five lakes.” The groups traveled a total of 1,830 miles to visit the 14 state parks. They went to: State Park, Toltec Mounds, Plantation Agriculture, DeGray Lake, , Lake Catherine, Logoly State Park, Crater of Diamonds, Cossatot River, Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, Historical Old Washington, Dardanelle State Park, Queen Wilhelmina, and Pinnacle Mountain State Park. While the deadline has passed for new voters to register to participate in the election, voters who have been registered within the State of Arkansas in anoth- er county, but wish to vote in Pike County, have until November 2 to move their registration. Additionally, to simplify the voting process, Coun- ty Clerk Sandy Campbell requests that any registered voter who has moved since last participating in an election to contact her office with their new address. With the Voter ID law having been upheld in court for the November 6 election, voters will be asked to present a valid ID, such as a driver’s license, student ID or federal or government photo ID, in order to vote. Those without a photo identification will be forced to vote provisionally, however an ID can be obtained for free at the Clerk’s office to relieve the issue. The Junior Knights came from behind twice to earn a 19-16 victory. Wins against Bismarck and Horatio (both road games) Beat Bismarck and Horatio will solidify their hold on second place in the league standings. The Junior Knights had two early season losses, and now have won four in a row for a 5-2 overall record and 4-1 in the confer- ence. The Centerpoint seventh graders ran into a Harmony Grove squad with twice the number of players suited up, and into the outside speed of the Junior Hornets. Camden won the game 28- 0. About an hour later, the regular junior high game was tense right to the finish. Camden turned two Centerpoint lost fumbles into touch- downs. Given a short field on which to move the football, Cam- den rarely got close to the Junior Knight end zone. Centerpoint had first crack at scoring moving from their 40 yard line to the Harmony Grove 31 before turning it over on downs. Camden tried two runs. One gained nothing, and the second snap ended with a two yard loss. A third down pass attempt was a soft lob pass into the right flat of the Harmony Grove formation. Junior Knight cornerback Hayden Rogers out jumped the in- tended receiver and came down with it on the 36 of Camden. A pass from Josh Lawson to Rogers gained 15 yards. After a sideline warning was issued to the Camden team, Lawson found C.J. Fox behind the Harmony Grove safety for six points. The 21-yard scoring toss made it 6-0 with 53 seconds left in the first period. The PAT kick missed right. Camden began on their 44 and went no where. One snap Centerpoint Junior Knight Jace Clark tries to pull away from tackler gained two yards. Second snap lost five as the first quarter ended. A third down run was smoth- ered by Junior Knight Hunter Donaldson forcing a Camden punt. Centerpoint started on their 23 yard line. Lawson ran for 10 yards, Carlos Ponce for five, but the next play stopped with a fumble lost to the Junior Hornets on the Centerpoint 37. A run gained four yards, a flag against Centerpoint moved it five yards closer to the Junior Knight goal, but the next snap lost three. A third down run of 27 yards to the Junior Knight four made for an easy touchdown with 4:30 left in the second quarter. A PAT run was successful for an 8-6 lead by the visitors. Centerpoint mishandled the Camden kick off, and it was recovered on the Junior Knight 10. The home team then went 90 yards to retake the lead. Lawson hit Dillon Fox for 16 yards, followed by a 17 yard throw to get to midfield. Lawson then found C.J. Fox for three throws. The first one gained 20 yards to the Camden 35. After three in-completions, Lawson found C.J. Fox on fourth down for a little over 10 yards and a new set of downs with 1:56 left in the half. After one pass found the grass, Lawson hit C.J. Fox at the sideline. The receiver wound his way through a maze of defenders to score with 1:32 left. The score made it 12-8. The PAT pass was incomplete. Centerpoint stopped Camden four plays later with a fumble recovery and went into the locker room leading 12-8. The teams opened the second half with each losing a fumble. Camden drove 56 yards overcoming crushing tackles by Dalton Kerbersky and Donaldson. A run covering 14 yards set Camden on the Centerpoint 22. A run gained five yards, a fumble occurred which Camden kept. After a flag against Centerpoint, a run gained seven yards to the four yard line. The Junior Hornets scored with 2:54 left in the third period. The PAT run was good for a 16-14 Camden lead. Centerpoint used up the remainder of the third period and half of the fourth in a drive which began on their 36. Jace Clark started the winning drive with runs of 10 yards, three and then four yards. Lawson found C.J. Fox for 11 more and Ponce ran for 13. The last play of the third period was a six yard loss. YOU’RE INVITED! Two plays for losses moved the Junior Knights backwards to open the fourth period. Lawson found C.J. Fox again. Fox twisted and turned causing the Junior Hornet tacklers to miss. He made it to the Camden 22. A pass to Kaden Owens gained 17 yards. Clark ran for four yards putting the ball inside the Friday, October 19, 2018 Camden one yard line. Clark then scored a touchdown with 4:49 left. The PAT kick was good for a 19-16 score. 11:00am – 2:00pm Camden tried to move down field, but Centerpoint 214 N 1st Street, Glenwood stopped them and ran out the clock.
