Curator, with Raechell Smith, Director, H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, NCECA 2002 Invitational Exhibition, Material Speculations, January – April, 2002. Formulated exhibition theme, reviewed submissions, corresponded with artists and their agents, issued contracts, edited and art directed catalog, wrote curator’s statement. The catalog garnered an Award of Excellence from the Art Directors Club of Houston for its design. The exhibition was favorably reviewed in the New Art Examiner (Chicago) and Review Magazine (Kansas City).

In March 2008, Thomas’ work was shown in a two-person exhibition at the Pittsburgh Armory in conjunction with the annual NCECA conference. Texas State nontenure line faculty member teaching 3D Design, Spring and Fall 2012 Cecy Holcomb (BFA 2006) earned the Best of Show Award at the Greater Austin Clay Artists 2014 juried exhibition, Dougherty Art Center, Austin, TX. In 2007, she served as the volunteer coordinator for the 2007 Texas Clay Festival in Gruene and served as Program Director for the Greater Austin Clay Artists Association. She operates Holcombville Pottery in San Marcos and regularly participates in the TX Clay Fest in Gruene, and the Dirt Dauber Festival at Eye of the Dog Art Center Melody Tiemann (BFA 2003) received an MFA degree from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS in 2007. She was an artist-in-residence at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN for 3 years, an Assistant Professor in the Art Department at Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS and in 2014 began as an Associate Professor of Art teaching ceramics and foundations at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, AL Carol Schwartz (BFA 2001) received an MFA degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and then taught in the community college system in Lincoln, NE. She was a resident artist and instructor at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in the spring of 2007. Carol taught as adjunct faculty in the Houston community college system for 5 years and was selected to participate in the Texas Clay Festivals, 2007-10. COMMUNITY SERVICE Empty Bowls Project for the Hays County Food Bank, 2011, 2012, 2013 In 2010 as a service leaning project, I worked with the advanced ceramics class to make over 100 soup bowls for the food bank to sell at its “Empty Bowls” fundraising event. With our participation, event profits increased from $2000 in 2010 to $3,600 in 2011. Our 2013 donation was 156 soup bowls.

Texas Clay Festival, Buck Pottery, Gruene, TX, 2003- 2018 Held each October, the festival features ceramic artworks by 50-60 Texas artists. Since 2001, Texas State ceramics students have served as festival volunteer coordinators and artists’ assistants. In appreciation of their participation, the festival organizers have donated over $4,000 to the Ceramic Arts Student Association (2004-14), and have also sponsored over $2000 in workshop scholarships for our students (2009-13).
