Joseph O’Brien’s charge won his only previous start over yesterday’s course and distance of 7f at the Curragh in early August and was supplemented for yesterday’s Gr.1 contest. The race lost a little of its lustre when the Gr.2 winner Thunder Moon (Zoffany) capped a fine weekend for Joseph Battleground (War Front) was withdrawn due to a cough, but a O’Brien when winning the Gr.1 National Stakes at the quality field of ten remained. SHALE TRIUMPHS IN MOYGLARE STUD STAKES Listen Up! Shale and Pretty Gorgeous have clashed three time now and the score now stands at two to one in favour of Shale, as the daughter of Galileo triumphed in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes TATTERSALLS OCTOBER BOOK 1 at the Curragh yesterday. Bred by Coolmore and trained by Donnacha O’Brien, the beautifully-bred Shale is a full-sister to the Gr.2-placed juvenile Berkeley Square and the Listed-placed First Of Spring, as well as the winner Celtic High King. SEARCH FOR A SONG REPEATS THE DOSE IN IRISH ST LEGER December Search For A Song ground out a repeat victory in the Gr.1 Irish St Leger at the Curragh yesterday, having looked to be beaten with three furlongs to go. Mares The four-year-old daughter of Galileo, a homebred for Moyglare Stud Farm, waltzed home last year by two and a quarter lengths, but since then the filly has not enjoyed great luck. Sixth on her seasonal debut in the 1m2½f Gr.2 Mooresbridge Stakes, she was pulled up next time out when reportedly slipping on the bend in the Gr.3 Munster Oaks, but was third last time out in the Gr.1 Tattersalls Gold Cup. In yesterday’s 1m6f race, she was settled back in the pack as last year’s Gr.1 Irish Derby victor Sovereign (Galileo) set the pace, with Twilight Payment (Teofilo) prominent, along with the Ebor Handicap winner Fujaira Prince (Pivotal). It was the latter who made what looked like a winning move, taking the lead with the three furlongs to go, but Oisin Orr had Search For A Song stoked up and the filly slowly closed on the leader. As Twilight Payment rallied for a renewed challenge on the far side, Search For A Song reached the leader and slowly overhauled him, striding away to win by two lengths from Fujaira Prince, with Twilight Payment 28 Million Guineas+ a neck away in third.
