NASHVILLE VOTER GUIDE • 2020 3 What a time to be alive! At the start of 2020, we already expected this year's election to be the most important of our lifetime. What we didn't expect was to be voting during an unprecedented global pandemic and amid Dear Shelby widespread civil unrest and protests against racism. This historical moment is calling for all of us to take direct action that reflects our morals and values. The buck stops with you on Election Day.

Decisions are made everyday on behalf of you, me and our community at different levels of government. As County Voter: constituents of elected officials, it is our right to choose the best person to represent our interest on issues such as policing, public health, school reopening, voting accessibility amid a pandemic, infrastructure, disbursement of the city budget, and a host of other issues. It is our right to choose the best person who chooses to show up to the table to be our extended voice.

This upcoming Aug 6 election will be your opportunity to say who you want to vouch for you at the state and federal levels. Memphis is choosing United States Senators, House of Representatives, State Senators, State House of Representatives, and Shelby County School Board Members. We need to make sure the people in our circle are registered to vote by the July 7 deadline. We also need to stay vigilant and stay informed on the real-time changes happening to our voting process. A Nashville judge ruled that COVID-19 is a valid reason for every Tennessee voter to request an absentee ballot. No one should have to choose between their health and their right to vote, so be sure to complete your absentee ballot application by July 30. Detailed instructions can be found in this Guide.

No candidate is perfect but who will best represent your beliefs and values? Who is making what's important to you important to them? Who has the better plan to engage the community in reopening the schools and businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic? Who has the better healthcare policy plan? Who has the better plan to reform or abolish policing. Who is collaborating with other elected officials to maximize their policy change efforts? Who is truly going to bring hope to our communities beyond words, tweets and ancyf slogans?

The Equity Alliance equips Black Tennesseans and other communities of color with the proper information in the civic process so we all can show up informed on Election Day. The Equity Alliance is proud to provide you our 2020 Tennessee Voter Guide, a free, nonpartisan, public resource for Memphis voters to be informed. In this guide, you'll find unbiased candidate profiles, a description of what each elected office does, polling locations and hours, voter ID requirements, a reminder to fill out your Census form. Our goal is to empower you to exercise your right to vote as a means to bring a balance of power to these public offices.

Thank you to our community partners, DENOR Brands and Public Relations, 529 Graphics, Tell Publishing, and our volunteers and distribution partners for their contributions to the 2020 Tennessee Voter Guide.
