All the staff were present , with the 1 Med 1941 204 exception of Mr Glyn Christopher, who joined HM Forces last week I understand from my predecessor that he called at the Education Office concerning the 3 Med 1941 205-206 staffing of the dept., and that he was assured an additional teacher would be sent here next week to replace Mr G Christopher, who joined HM Forces on the 28th inst. Meanwhile, we must do the best we can to conduct this school in as normal a way as possible. There are only 92 children on books (this no. includes 6 official evacuees), and this small number probably accounts for the meagre staffing arrangement If the staff has not been reinforced by Monday morning I shall have to make urgent 5 Med 1941 207-208 representations to the Education Office, whose task in finding teachers to replace those called to HM Forces from Boys’ Departments-I realise, is a difficult one 12 noon. I proceed to Education Office with object of discussing staffing difficulties with the 8 Med 1941 208-209 Education Officer, and of trying to have a teacher transferred here to replace Mr G Christopher (now with HM Forces). Mr Raymond Jones assured me that, since so many men teachers had been called up, there was little hope of any additional staff at Pontshonorton at present, but that he would bear in mind the difficulties under which the work of the school was being carried on, and send an additional teacher at the first opportunity. Though admitting the educational unsoundness of continuing different classes for instruction under one teacher, Mr Jones said there was no alternative Gave notice to boys and parents that the School Penny Bank system is to be discontinued in 19 Med 1941 210 favour of a simpler system, i.e. purchase of War Savings Certificates using 1d and 6d stamps as receipts for deposits Air Raid Drill was taken, and gas masks were inspected.
