Riders will carry their jumping penalties (ie for a knock down or disobedience) incurred in the first round into the jump off. This means that riders do not start with zero penalties unless they were clear in the first round. • The rider who has the fastest round in the jump off and the lowest jumping penalties will be declared the winner. Competition Conditions • Watches / timing equipment / electronic timing devices of any kind will not be permitted to be worn during the competition; anyone found to be using timing equipment of any kind during the competition will be eliminated. • Competitors may walk the course on foot without the aid of additional measuring equipment (i.e. wheel, GPS, cross country app) anyone found to be using any device to measure the course, or being advised of the length of course by any other member of the public will be eliminated. • Outside assistance during the competition is strictly prohibited and anyone found to be using any form of outside assistance will be eliminated. This does not apply to combinations of cross country fences. Joker Fence An optional “Joker Fence” will be included in the first round in the Diamond and Grand Prix classes. The Joker Fence can be attempted by riders immediately following the completion of their first round in order to reduce jumping penalties received during the round. Successfully clearing the Joker Fence will remove 4 penalties received during the first round. A knock down or disobedience at the Joker Fence will incur 8 penalties. The Joker Fence may only be attempted ONCE. Should a Rider wish to attempt the Joker Fence, an approach on the fence must be made within 20 seconds of the completion of their round. Should a rider have no (0) penalties during their round and attempt the Joker Fence, successfully clearing the Joker Fence will not change their score. A knock down or disobedience at the Joker Fence will incur 8 penalties. Tie Breaker In the event of equality of penalties and time at the conclusion of the jump off, a Joker Jump-off will occur. Giuseppe Della Chiesa, 20March 2016 Chairman FEI Eventing Committee Dear Giuseppe and Committee, As organizer of one of the FEI Classics Series, the Australian International Three Day Event, (AdelaideCCI4*) I would like to put forward our comments on the latest FEI Committee communication regarding points for discussion at the up coming FEI Forum, which unfortunately I am unable to attend and proposed rules for 2017. While the Australian Federation will be putting forward their considered response on the paper in full, I would like to comment on those points which have specific relevance to the Adelaide CCI4* Name of the Sport/Discipline and Star levels: I am in favour of a change if it has a positive effect on the marketing and understanding of our Sport of Eventing from a public perspective, and agree with the logic here. Horse Sports in the Olympics are known as ‘Equestrian’ and our sport of eventing – is the Equestrian Triathlon (or Triathlon of Horse sport ?) Or even an Equestrathon (ie without the ‘l for ease of pronunciation) While the Australian International 3 Day Event is known by many as Adelaide4* our marketing people are forever confused with ‘ why is a 3 Day Event over 4 days ? Horse Trials makes more sense in a way – but there are issues with the translation of ‘Horse Trials’ in some countries outside UK. Marketing people are also continually saying ‘ Why is the highest level of eventing 4* when the highest level Dressage and Jumping shows are 5* ? and “why are Badminton and Burghley (and Rolex, Pau, Luhmuhlen and Adelaide ) not 5* ? I agree the addition of a 1* at 1.05 is a great initiative for all the reasons we all understand.

  • Power to Jamestown
ROUNDUP All power to Jamestown We reckon RM Williams would be proud. e South Australian home town of the bush innovator and businessman is now home to one of the world’s biggest and most advanced batteries. e battery, which can store 129 megawatt hours of power, is made from an array of lithium ion Tesla Powerpacks, and has the ability to power 30,000 homes for an hour. It will store power from the adjoining Hornsdale Wind Farm (issue 109, p38–63) and is seen as an important way to balance out some of the short-term power shortages in South Australia. It is owned by energy provider Neoen in partnership with Tesla, and was built in less than 100 days after Tesla founder Elon Musk promised that it would be delivered for free if he couldn’t build it in that time. In late December, South Australia’s energy minister Tom Koutsantonis said the battery had been performing better than expected, delivering 100 megawatts into the national electricity grid in 140 milliseconds when a coal- red power plant tripped and went o ine. “ at’s a record and the national operators were shocked at how quickly and e ciently the battery was able to deliver this type of energy into the market,” he said on 5AA radio. A week after the o cial opening, the gates were thrown open to a free community event marking both the opening, and the completion (after three years) of the 95-tower wind farm. Colin Byles, CEO of the Northern Areas Council, says about 490 people came to the celebration and many toured the site.
