Het inspireren en verbinden van deze grote groep is een uitdaging in een samenleving die steeds meer gericht is op het individu. Tennissers delen steeds meer hun eigen tijd in, onder hun eigen voorwaarden. De samenleving verandert en de KNLTB verandert mee. Als aanjager van tennis in Nederland wil de KNLTB zo veel mogelijk mensen meer laten tennissen en er voor zorgen dat zij dat ook blijven doen. Dit doen we door alle partijen die bij onze sport betrokken zijn te inspireren en te verbinden, door de zichtbaarheid van en de beleving van tennis te vergroten én daarnaast goed te luisteren naar de wensen en behoeften van onze tennissers en verenigingen. Met grote topevenementen, als het ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament en het Libéma Open, vergroten we de populariteit en zichtbaarheid van de tennissport. Door de inzet van verschillende communicatiekanalen brengen we de beleving rond het nationale en internationale toptennis voor het voetlicht en zijn we tevens gids in tennisland. Successen van tennishelden motiveren en inspireren, maar het werkt ook andersom: toptennis is gebaat bij een brede basis.

Het Van Mossel Kia Dutch Open tennistoernooi op de banen van ALTA is begonnen. Aan deze ATP Challenger 80 doen 48 tennissers mee onder wie Thiemo de Bakker die vorig jaar de titel won toen dit toernooi nog in Schevingen werd uitgerold. Voor het toptennis in Nederland is het mooi dat nationale en internationale spelers zich tijdens dit toernooi met elkaar kunnen meten. Maar ook voor het creëren van meer aandacht voor tennis is dit toernooi belangrijk. Organisator Stichting TopSport Amersfoort en hoofdsponsor Van Mossel Kia zetten met het Van Mossel Kia Dutch Open de Nederlandse tenniswereld weer op de kaart. Bas Huijzer, commercieel/operationeel directeur van de hoofdsponsor Van Mossel Kia in Amersfoort, heeft zijn brede schouders gezet onder dit toer- nooi. „Een van de kernwaarden van ons bedrijf is het onderscheidend vermogen. Top seed in the girls’ event is Irina Khromacheva (RUS), whose best result in the Grand Slams last year was a runner-up finish at Wimbledon. She will be looking to go one better in Melbourne but will come up against some strong competition. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN), the second seed, was a semifinalist at the tournament 12 months ago.
