She had served in this House for a five-year period and her father had been the former longest serving Speaker in this Parliament. I thought that I should just bring this to the notice of hon. Members who may care to express condolences. The Minister of Housing and Settlements (Hon. John Humphrey): Mr. Speaker, anyone who has been in political life for as long as I have been would have known Arnold Thomasos when he was Speaker of this House. Those who, in fact, were in this House when he presided as Speaker would have known that he did not tolerate nonsense; he was a very strict Speaker. We could only judge that, as a parent, he would have been as strict and added to the strictness would have been the principle of love for his child. I had the advantage of knowing the late Gloria Thomasos-Pollard because I served for a while in the government in which she was involved. I must say that my knowledge of her late father and herself confirm, in fact, what I started saying that Gloria did manifest discipline, friendliness, and strictness, but she was a delightful person and all of us have fond memories of our association with her and also with her late father.

How can the liminal spaces between graduate school (theory) and art teaching (practice) be more productive? How can an art teacher thrive as a hybrid of teacher/learner? I identify instances of dialogic co- constructed knowledge but monologic or dialectic experiences have been more prevalent. By interpreting and analyzing my art educations a theory is developed to optimize educational interaction to enhance learning experiences of teachers, and consequently learning experiences of their students. ii Acknowledgments Many educators have taught and inspired me through the four degrees I have earned from The Ohio State University. Smidirini 19 The Atlantic Steps , an international-touring adaptation of the phenomenally successful Irish show Fuaim Chonamara, will be presented on Saturday evening. It tells the epic story of Ireland’s oldest dance form, portrayed through the music, song, dance and energy of the Connemara region. Centered around the joyful dance and unbridled enthusiasm of Brian Cunningham, the show continues to move festival and theatre audiences to their feet, bringing sean-nós dance to its rightful place on the world stage.

As I demonstrate, the methodologies available to early modern historians, many of which were developed by medieval chroniclers, were extraordinary flexible, able to meet a large number of scholarly and political needs. I argue that many early modern historians worked with medieval texts and genres not because they had yet to learn more sophisticated models for representing the past, but rather because one of the most effective ways that these writers dealt with the political and religious exigencies of their times was by adapting the practices, genres, and materials of medieval history. I demonstrate that the early modern national history was capable of supporting multiple genres and reading modes; in fact, many of these histories reflect their authors’ conviction that authentic past narratives required genres with varying levels of facticity.

Many of our noblest na- tive bn-ds—the Great Auk, the Bustard, Stork, Bittern, &c., are totally extinct in the Highlands ; whilst the Golden Eagle, Sea Eagle, Osprey, Ger Falcon, Goshawk, and a score of other noble birds, though quite common in every glen half a century ago, are now only to be found in the most remote and inaccessible corners of the Highlands and Islands ; and if the ruthless slaughter that has been going on for the last generation goes on a few years longer, they will soon all be as extinct as the Great Auk, or the Dodo of New Zealand.
