CChurchhurch ofof St.St. PatrickPatrick 400 Main Street Huntington, New York 11743 (631)-385-3311 www.stpatrickchurchhunt.org FROM OUR PASTOR, MSGR. STEVEN CAMP Dear Parishioners, Today is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, traditionally known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare (“Rejoice”), sets a tone of joyful anticipation of the Easter mystery, which is only weeks away. This is why the Priest wears rose-colored vestments. The name comes from Entrance Antiphon for this Mass: “ Rejoice, Jerusalem, and all you who love her”. This Fourth Sunday of Lent marks a joyful relief amidst the seriousness and somberness of the many weeks of preparation for Easter. Even in Lent we rejoice, because we know God loves us and will provide for our needs. In the first reading today, from the Book of Chronicles, God pardons those who have been unfaithful. In today’s Gospel as well in the second reading, we are reminded that the Father has sent the Son because He has so loved us that He wants us to be able to return to Him. We rejoice in the forgiveness that the Lord offers for each of us. With this Sunday being the fourth Sunday of Lent, we come close to Holy Week. Holy Week is one of the most important weeks of the year for the Church. As we continue to prepare to celebrate the Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem, Passion & Death, and His Glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday, please make note of the schedule of all of the Holy Week liturgies that will take place here in our Parish.

Photo: The National Gallery, courtesy of the Thomas Dane Gallery, 2012. © Michael Landy, Michael Landy as St Jerome, MICHAEL LANDY SAINTS ALIVE An introduction for teachers and students SAINTS ALIVE This exhibition consists of seven kinetic sculptures that are operated by visitors. The sculptures represent figures and stories of popular saints taken from the history of art. They are made from cast representations of details taken from National Gallery paintings, which have been combined with assemblages of recycled machinery, broken children’s toys and other unwanted junk. In the foyer to the exhibition, a selection of related drawings and collages is displayed. The collages are made from fragments cut out from reproductions of paintings in the collection. THE ROOTSTEIN HOPKINS ASSOCIATE ARTIST SCHEME The National Gallery is a historical collection that ends with work by Cézanne and the Post-Impressionists. At the time of the Gallery’s foundation in 1824, one of the stated aims was that it should provide a resource from which contemporary artists could learn and gain inspiration. Taking its cue from this idea, the Associate Artist Scheme began in 1989 with the appointment of Paula Rego. The essential requirement for the Associate Artist is that he or she makes new work by engaging with, and responding to the collection or some aspect of the collection. The artist is given a studio in the Gallery for a period of around two years. Michael Landy is the ninth artist to be invited to undertake this project.

Kress Collection 1943.4.20 ENTRY The painting represents the martyr saint of Alexandria according to the usual iconographic canons of the early fourteenth century in Tuscany: with a crown placed on her blond hair, which is parted over the top of her head and gathered over the nape of her neck, the palm of martyrdom in her left hand and a book that she supports with both hands against the wheel, her instrument of martyrdom, with sharp, denticulated metal spikes along its rim. • The Autobiography of St. Anthony Mary Claret
Saint Anthony Mary Claret AUTOBIOGRAPHY Edited by JOSÉ MARIA VIÑAS, CMF Director Studium Claretianum Rome Forward by ALFRED ESPOSITO, CMF Claretian Publications Chicago, 1976 FOREWORD The General Prefecture for Religious Life has for some time wanted to bring out a pocket edition of the Autobiography of St. Anthony Mary Claret to enable all Claretians to enjoy the benefit of personal contact with the most authentic source of our charism and spirit. Without discounting the value of consulting other editions, it was felt there was a real need to make this basic text fully available to all Claretians. The need seemed all the more pressing in view of the assessment of the General Chapter of 1973: "Although, on the one hand, the essential elements and rationale of our charism are sufficiently explicit and well defined in the declarations 'On the Charism of our Founder' and 'On the Spiritual Heritage of the Congregation' (1967), on the other hand, they do not seem to have been sufficiently assimilated personally or communitarily, or fully integrated into our life" (cf. RL, 7, a and b). Our Claretian family's inner need to become vitally aware of its own charism is a matter that concerns the whole Church. Pope Paul's motu proprio "Ecclesiae Sanctae" prescribes that "for the betterment of the Church itself, religious institutes should strive to achieve an authentic understanding of their original spirit, so that adhering to it faithfully in their decisions for adaptation, religious life may be purified of elements that are foreign to it and freed from whatever is outdated" (II, 16, 3).
