the dj, the music and you by DJ Res5 Chain Of Fools: The Internet Corrections Column... Music is a tricky business. While I was able to deliver a near-perfect assessment of the Grammy winners before the awards happened, my sources failed me to varying degrees with producing information about upcoming projects.

Mariah’s next album will be called E=MC² and has an April 15 release date, according to the MariahCarey.com newl- etter. ’s next album will be called Licorice, which was oddly enough a previ- ously linked title for the project. You can check out the pre-release track list for the album, as well as pre-order it, from CDWOW.com at http://www13.cd-wow.com/detail_results.php?product_ code=2599743

Mariah’s lead single is out. It’s called “Touch My Body.” I had the pleasure of hearing this track already, and it is very much in the Mimi style. I found it a very solid mid- tempo, but still light enough to inspire smiles and finger snaps. So, only time will tell as to the complete validity of the track listing that is circulating. Just a gratuitous shot a naked, wet dude. After months of fight- ing off connections to a bootleg that was floating around, he explained simply about his decision to finally put a real Rauhofer take on OneRepulic’s “Apologize.” “I like the song and didn’t find a good to play,” he ex- plains. He has done a Reconstruction Club Mix and Dub, and expect to hear at least one of them when he takes the decks at the Ice Ball this Saturday at Circuit. If you can’t wait, a sample is available on his MySpace page.

Last word is on Michael Jackson. Thriller is turning 25, so it has been re-released with some new trimmings. Best Buy even got a bonus track, so go check it out...

wannaNightspots’ do? Free Dating Advice (you’re welcome) by Michael Hampton

I am going to give you my best date ever. I did this date as a first date with a man that I didn’t know very well, but whom I got to know very well very quickly. (WINK)

I took him to the circus.

Granted, this date only works when the circus is in town, but I highly recommend it. It may sound corny or sad, but if you want to share a hatred of children or a love of cotton candy, it’s the best place in the world.

I picked him up, with some chocolates of course, and took him to the United Center for the show. He had no idea where we were going until we pulled up and he had never been to one before.

After laughing at the guy who stepped in elephant poop and revealing stories about how clowns scared us as children, we went to Clarke’s at 930 W. Belmont for some dessert and coffee. After a cup of Joe and some deli- cious pastries, we sealed the deal.

HOT AS ICE NITRO, the monthly smorgasbord of audio and visual delight at Circuit, cel- ebrates its first anniversary this Saturday night, February 23 with the Ice Ball. Nightspots put a few questions to NITRO’s deacon of design Visuwil about the past, presence and future of Boystown’s hottest monthly extravaganza.

Nightspots: How do you go about deciding on the monthly themes for the NITRO party? Visuwil: I always start with a consistent formula, appealing to all of the human senses...focusing on sight, sound, taste and touch. I really love combining ideas to create something different and innovative, creating that “WOW” effect for all who attend. It’s always sure to be a night to remember!

NS: What have been some of your favorites of the themes NITRO has done so far? The Circus theme, the Garden of Good and Evil theme, the Farm theme, etc. I love them all! The themes are all quite color- ful and whimsical. I can’t really say which one is my favorite.

The NITRO events always tend to come off big and bold be- cause of the support and details which go into the event. I love to create over-the-top and out-of-the-box type work.

NITRO delivers an explosive entertainment experience monthly. Ads for a few of the past Nitro parties. NS: What makes NITRO a uniquely Chicago experience?

NITRO reflects the unique style, dance music and ambience of Chicago’s BOOM BOOM Room (Mondays @ Green Dolphin Street) with mesmerizing visuals and creative theatrics of the nationally known Cirque du Soleil.

I have marketed this event to inspire Chicagoans (gay, str8 or indifferent) to enjoy their lives by supporting the arts and local nightlife. Have fun! It attracts a very large and diverse—and not necessarily a completely gay/lesbian—crowd.

NS: What’s to come? Well, one can never really know who might attend the NITRO event, but we do know that DJ Peter Rauhofer will be here this Saturday night. will spin in March and the new DJ sensation Billy Steele will be back in April for a really interesting concept that we are working on for NITRO.

I’m still encouraging the booking of DJ Offer Nissim for NITRO; I encourage Chicagoans to send in their requests.

hydrate • 3458 N. Halsted • www.HydrateChicago.com Intermission PSME JEF 8FJSE Animaniac madandugly.drunkrhino.com Welcome to the home of the demented artwork and animations of Ross Butter. Butter is a frequent contributor to the British humor site b3ta. His work is... visceral. There is a lot of blood, feces, blood, explicit content, and more blood. His characters are slightly fleshed out stick men who often meet with rather grisly fates. The short animations are done as GIF files. What’s clever about them is the manner in which they fold back on themselves for the loop. Oh, and they’re damn funny too. 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 TECHNICOLOR YAWNS www.rainbowpuke.com I don’t know why, but someone out there really felt there was a need for a gallery of “rainbow puke” pictures. “What’s a rainbow puke picture?,” the foolish among you ask. Well, it’s a drawing of something (usually a rainbow) puking a rainbow. What’s kind of amusing is that the early pics are the crude, MSPaint-type of pics, but as the galleries progress, the pictures rapidly become more involved. This could be heading for some sort of minor meme-dom. 0111010101110101011010101101011010101101010101011101010101110 Going for Barack www.mychurch.org/blog/120382/Barack-Hussein-Obama

All the lies about Illinois’ Junior Senator, and the next POTUS, in one handy, racist package. The fact that it’s hosted on MyChurch.com, a sort of MySpace for Jesusfreaks, only underscores what I think about the intellect of fundie xtians.

Another case of someone having just a weeee bit too much fun with Photoshop. The idea is simple: Come up with some silly play on “Obama,” like “Obamanonyamous,” and then illustrate it like the picture to the left. When the site first went live, there was a single image: Showbama. In a few days, it’s grown to over 30 types of Obamas, and more are promised. 22 February 20, 2008 nightSPOTSMAFIA We’ll tell ya what ta think
