Carter teamed up with Frank to win the 18ft Skiff Grand Prix over the world’s best International sailors. Another highlight for Carter and Frank was the winning, then organising and hosting of the 2011 SAP 505 World Title’s Carter Jackson – Forward Hand from Australia’s Hamilton Island. Born in Sydney with a sailing career spaning over 20 years, including representing Australia in 5 World Championships, Frank greatest moment was being part of the team that won the coveted title of 18ft Skiff Grand Prix Champion after only 5 years on the Professional Circuit. In early October 2013, the International Fleet Review, which hosted ships from twenty nations, was a spectacular celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Australian Navy and commemorated the arrival of the first seven ships on 4 October 1913. Today’s celebration on Australia Day reminds us of our history, honours those who contributed to that history and celebrates the foundation of our nation. In doing so, we acknowledge the first Australians and pay respect to the Gadigal and Cammeragil people, recognising them as having been fine custodians of Sydney Harbour. On this 178th Australia Day Regatta on Sydney Harbour, hundreds of sailors and their families will participate in a wonderful spectacle on one of the world’s greatest waterways. The Anniversary Regatta, as it was then known, commenced in 1837 just one year after South Australia was proclaimed a colony and before Victoria, Queensland or Tasmania (it was still called Van Diemen’s Land) were formally declared provinces. There is no better way to mark the birth of a nation surrounded by sea and developed through our great maritime heritage than by participating in the Australia Day Regatta. We welcome all those who have entered their craft, large or small, old or new. With the support of our host clubs they will celebrate Australia Day on more than 20 different waterways.

    COMPETITION GETS SERIOUS AS COMPETITORS STRIVE TO STAKE A CLAIM TO THE NEW VIRTUAL ENDEAVOUR TROPHY Last Monday marked the start of the Semi-Finals phase of the “RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX championship”, where the all-important points really start to count, as racers seek a place in the Live Final and the chance of winning the new “Virtual Endeavour Trophy”. The Semi-Finals run until 27 February during which time any points you score are worth three times more than they were in the Quarter- Finals phase. Even if you haven’t taken part so far there is still time to sign up and clinch those all important points which could see you stake a claim to a place in the Live Final to be held at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show over the weekend of 3-4 March at Alexandra Palace, London. Each day five regattas take place (at 04.00, 10.00, 17.00, 19.00 and 21.30 GMT) and you only need to complete three regattas over the entire two-week period of the Semi-Finals phase, so, in theory, you could even register and qualify for the Finals just by competing of the last day!
