DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY From the paved, spacious hallway, a staircase leads to the bedrooms and doors lead to the lounge, dining room and to the kitchen. One additional door opens to the cloakroom. The kitchen is the heart of the home and includes a range of granite-topped units, a two-oven black Aga with adjacent warming oven and still has ample space for a dining table. Off this is a dining room with flagstone floor and exposed stonework to chimney breast with its woodburning stove. The lounge is an especially large room featuring and inglenook-style fireplace with wood burner and with double doors leading into a generous family room to one end and, to the other end, to an oak framed conservatory glazed to three sides with pitched roof, and doors to garden. To the first floor are the bedrooms. The large master bedroom has a pitched roof and broad doors opening to a balcony, looking out over the garden and own paddock. A doorway opens up to a dressing room with dressing table and walk-in wardrobe. The second, guest bedroom has a contemporary ensuite shower room and fitted wardrobes. One other double bedroom (originally two rooms) looks over the front garden and paddock and has use of the luxurious family bathroom with its roll top bath and shower cubicle. GARDENS & GROUNDS Double wrought iron gates controlled from the house open to a sweeping, sheltered driveway onto a large parking and turning area, fronting the double garage (approx 6.05m x 6.19m) This is accessed via an electric door and has a utility area with plumbing for washing machine, dryer and space for deep freezer etc. An external door leads to an inner lobby with staircase leading to a mulit purpose extra bedroom / office / games room. Pass the petrol station at Four Cross (just beyond St Athan) and, after about 1/2 a mile further, turn right at the dedicated junction for Aberthaw. The driveway to Burton Cottage will be to your left after about 100 yards: a pair of wrought iron gates leads to the property. There are however areas of poverty and deprivation and partners are working with local communities to ensure that the needs of different communities are understood and are met, so that all residents can look forward to a bright future. Our population The population of the Vale of Glamorgan as per 2015 mid-year estimates based on 2011 Census data was just under 128,000. Of these, approximately 51% are female and 49% male. The Vale has a similar age profile of population as the Welsh average with 18.5% of the population aged 0-15, 61.1% aged 16-64 and 20.4% aged 65+. Population projections estimate that by 2036 the population aged 0-15 and aged 16-64 will decrease. It was conceived as a locally adopted inventory of ‘special features’ in the former County area. However, as a result of local government restructuring, the changes to local authority boundaries, as well as changes in responsibilities and funding mechanisms the survey was never completed, and as a consequence was not comprehensive in its coverage.
