NOTICE is hereby given that in exercise of their powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, propose to introduce traffic calming measures under the provisions of the Highways Act 1980. The effect of these measures will be to construct in Maidenbower Drive, at the current location of the priority chicane, a raised table constructed of asphalt:

• the table will be positioned at the location of the current priority chicane 50m west of Balcombe Rd roundabout. The table will be 65mm above the existing Maidenbower Drive road surface. It will extend the width of the carriageway and will be 6.0 metres long with 1.15m and 1.25 metre ramps and a maximum ramp gradient of 1:11.

Full details of the proposals in this Notice can be viewed on our website www.westsussex.gov.uk/tro. The website includes a response form for comments or objections.

The documents may be inspected at West Sussex County Council, County Hall, Chichester during normal office hours, and at the Crawley Public Library, Southgate Avenue Crawley during normal library opening hours.

Statement Of Reasons for proposing to install the traffic calming measures

The County Council in exercise of their powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, propose to introduce traffic calming measures under the provisions of the Highways Act 1980. The effect of these measures will be to construct in Maidenbower Drive, at the current location of the priority chicane, a raised table constructed of asphalt:

Concerns have been raised by the local community about the impact the existing priority chicane has on traffic flows and driver behaviour in Maidenbower Drive. The Crawley County Local Committee approved progression of a community highway improvement scheme to remove the chicane and replace it with a raised table

The table will replace the contentious chicane. It will not impede traffic flows but will still retain the traffic calming function. This is similar to other features constructed in Maidenbower Drive.

The scheme is proposed to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road and to facilitate the passage on the road of any class of traffic.
