CRITICAL VOICE TO CHANGE THE WORLD LETTER Persevere Hello, Sookmyungians. Have you adapted well to the new semester? The spring season is in full bloom, bringing warm sunlight and a pleasant breeze. I think the weather most Sookmyungians enjoy is back. It is the weather most Sookmyungians enjoy. I love this weather, too. Perhaps that's why I feel lazy. I feel like postponing tasks that I planned at the beginning of the new year and doing something else. I want to meet friends, go on trips, and lose myself in YouTube and Netflix. If I am being honest, this type of living makes me happier. Still, I am not free to live as I want daily. Because it is only April, I will keep up my energy to accomplish all my plans. I'm going to tackle them one at a time because it is more important to pursue the bigger dream than the happiness in front of me. First of all, I must diligently work on articles for The Sookmyung Times. Then, I must study hard for the upcoming midterms. Most tasks I need to do are the ones I dread, but I'll work towards them with pleasure and joy. Like the expression, "You will never be betrayed by your effort," I will do my best to realize my new year plans. I am not sure what awaits me at the end of my efforts, but at least I'm taking pleasure in the work I am doing now. Sookmyungians, keep steadfast towards your plans, and take great joy in what you do this month. Never lose sight of the big happiness from accomplishing all your plans, no matter how tedious they might appear. Each day will be better than the day before, each month better than the last as we move towards the future. Now that the weather has gotten warmer, let's enjoy each day lively. Never give up and keep persevering! Travail Personnel Korean Entertainment Nom: Alves Chambel Prénom: Carolina Classe: 6G3 Tutrice: Amélie Mossiat 2019/2020 Introduction Hello, my name is Carolina and I am 14 years old. My 2019/2020 TRAPE is about Korean Entertainment! I have been into K-Pop for almost 3 years and I have always been researching lots of things about Korean celebrities, their activities and their TV shows. Since I was a child, I have always been very curious about the Asian culture, even though I thought they were gangster. As I grew up, I have become more and more connected to their culture. Then, at the end of 2016, I listened to my first K-Pop song ever. I was 10 years old and I was in primary school when I got to know EXO, the first group I listened to. They had a big impact in my life because in that moment I was struggling mentally and physically... The only thing that made me happy, was listening to their songs! They would make feel better in every way possible, once I listened to some music, I’d completely forget about my worries. It was always the best part of my days. That is why I have grown attached to K-Pop songs, dances and singers. Table of contents WHAT WERE THE MOST FAMOUS SERIES (KOREAN DRAMAS)? (2019) IS IT POPULAR IN OTHER COUNTRIES? WHO IS MY FAVOURITE ACTOR AND ACTRESS? ARE IDOLS ALSO ACTORS? WHAT GENRES OF DRAMAS ARE THERE? WHAT GENRE OF MUSIC DO THEY DO? WHAT ARE THE MOST FAMOUS GROUPS IN KOREA AND INTERNATIONALLY? • Female Portrayal in the Kpop Industry Title
Name: Luke Tang (27) Class: 3H1 Subject slant: Literature Topic: Female Portrayal in the Kpop Industry Title: “Of Unnies and Noonas” Unpacking TWICE as Portrayed in their Lyrical and Visual Media Chapter 1: Introductory Chapter a. General Background: In South Korea, gender inequality still continues to persist. The gender wage gap in South Korea remains over two times the average of 14.3%, with a clear link to gender inequality. There also continues to be gender gaps in representation in government, with the OECD even metaphorically describing the South Korean situation to be an uphill battle when it comes to fighting for the global goal of complete gender equality. (OECD, 2017) In the entertainment sector, sexual assault scandals shocking fans worldwide continue to unfold within the kpop industry, with the most recent of them allegedly involving circulation of sexually obscene videos of women. This was perpetrated by males in the kpop industry. Seungri, previously a member of Korean boy band BIGBANG, together with, Jung Joon-young, former Korean singer-songwriter. This sheds light on a growing issue of gender inequality with such cases being the most extreme of an inequality already present. TWICE, a South Korean girl group is the third most popular kpop group of 2019 according to Forbes and Ranker and they will be the focus of my paper. This is despite a notable contrast in concept that veers away from the kpop’s “girl crush”, a concept with sexy as well as occasionally tomboyish concepts. Being a visual and lyrical descriptor of kpop, the opposite lies in cute, aegyo concepts which TWICE primarily embodies and is known for.

Thank you for reading our articles and supporting our club. We look forward reporting to you next year from the Jr./Sr. High School! The Sixth Grade Field Trip By Jordan Linscott, 6th grade This year’s sixth grade field trip was to Chelsea Piers and the Metropolitan Museum. It was, to me, very fun and informational. As sixth grader Jordan Delardi said, “I thought there would be more activities at Chelsea Piers, but I loved that they let you do some free time with the soccer and basketball courses. As for the museum, it was very fun to see all the artifacts and stuff.” This field trip was made mainly to help us on our sixth grade museum Night at the Museum artifact project and why we should save it if Manhattan were to sink under water. And I think it was worth it because it was fun to present to our parents and teachers. Amanda Nebral heard Jordan’s group present at Night at the Museum and she said that they did a very good job!
