MORE THAN A GAME In May, 2006, following his freshman season at Georgia State, Leonard Mendez was invited to join the SCORE all-star team. He and his squad, which also included college players from Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Mississippi State, New Mexico State and Georgia, went on a trip to the Dominican Republic. While the evenings were spent playing basktball, the days were spent on humanitarian projects, such as visiting orphanages and shopped for and delivering groceries to the less fortunate. On the court, Mendez’s team posted a 4-0 record, and he averaged 10 points and four rebounds per game.
