As a student at UC Berkeley, Moultrie majored in Art History because, being aesthetically inclined, she was always attracted to beauty. Moultrie continued her study of Art History in Paris, studying at the Universite de la Sorbonne for a year. Later, she ran an art gallery in San Francisco and worked at Christie’s auction house in Beverly Hills and Manhattan. Eventually, she realized that while she would always appreciate working with fine art, she was an artist herself and wanted to create art of her own. Serendipity stepped in when Moultrie experienced something that would change her life: she had the unique opportunity to watch Francesca Tolot (still one of her favorite makeup artists) and Topolino apply makeup, and she was instantly hooked. Moultrie says she became addicted to the feeling that she got when she made a woman feel and look beautiful, “I love the inner and outer transformative quality that makeup possesses. Makeup, to me, is like jewelry, it makes me giddy! I get almost as excited about glitter as I do about diamonds and rubies! I love to extract the natural beauty from a woman; to find the beautiful quality in her and pull it forward, as opposed to obliterating it with heavy foundation and starting over.” 5 Moultrie has had the great pleasure of transforming great beauties such as Alicia Keys, Naomi Campbell, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, America Fererra, Christina Milian, Laila Ali, and Ciara. She has also groomed men such as Prince, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Jay-Z, P- Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, John Legend, Kobe Bryant, Clive Davis and Will Smith, just to name a few. Her work has been published in magazines such as Vanity Fair, Essence, InStyle Weddings, Interview, Rolling Stone, and W. Moultrie plays an integral part in the hip-hop music movement; she is regularly hired by directors such as Hype Williams, Chris Robinson, and Dave Meyers. She has also worked with Sanaa Hamri, Jesse Terrero, Justin Francis, Maleek Sayeed, Jake Nava, Paul Hunter, and Bryan Singer on many music videos and commercials. She has worked with great photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Matthew Rolston, Kwaku Alston, and Sheryl Nields. Moultrie resides in Los Angeles. She enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, Bikram yoga, bike riding, tennis, and snow boarding. Moultrie plans to launch a makeup line so women of color will no longer “have to mix two, sometimes three foundations in order to match their skin tone.” 6 .
