M/S. Century Rayon Executive Summary Page 1 of 2 Project: Manufacturing of Viscose Filament Yarn Project Proponent: M/s. Century Rayon EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1. Introduction: Century Rayon is a division of Century Textiles and Industries limited, Mumbai, belonging to India’s renowned B.K. Birla Group of Companies. Mr. B. L. Jain, Wholetime Director, Century Textiles & Industries Ltd. It is situated at Shahad about 60 kms. North of Mumbai on the bank of Ulhas River. Consent to Operate from MPCB Environmental clearance was not prerequisite at the time of establishment for the existing plant. Hence Consent to operate was obtained from Maharashtra Pollution control Board [Consent No. BO/JD PAMS/RO Kalyan/EIC NO KN-6404-13/Amnd./CAC-4615 dated 29.05.2013 and valid up to 31.12.2014]. The copy of CTO is enclosed as annexure in PFR. 2. Identification of Project: The proposed project is an expansion for manufacturing of viscous Filament rayon. The project falls under category ‘A’, section 5 (d) of EIA notification 2006 and subsequent amendments. Hence Environment Clearance is applicable to the proposed project. 3. Size of Project: The proposed expansion project is for increase in manufacturing of Viscous Filaments Rayon yarn from 25000 MT/A to 30,000 MT/A (Proposed Expansion- 5000 MT/A). 4. Cost of project: Total Project Cost for proposed project activity is Rs. 125 Cr. 5. Location of the project: M/s. Century Rayon, the proponent is a unit of B.K. Birla Group of Companies located at Shahad 421103, Murbad Road, Shahad, Ulhasnagar Thane, Maharashtra. The total plot area is 378656.00 square meter. Unit is running since 1956. The coordinates of project site is 19o 14’52.31N and 73o 9 51.52 E. 6. Land use: The land use of the site is Industrial and ownership is private Land. 7. Manufacturing process: The detail manufacturing process of Viscous Filaments Rayon yarn is given in the Prefeasibility report. 8. Water Requirement: The source of water for the proposed project shall be met through Ulhas River. Total water requirement including the proposed project will be 17550 KLD. The total wastewater generation will be 13300 KLD. 9. Power Requirements: Power requirement will be met from MSEDCL. Power requirement after expansion is 20.2 MVA. Fuel Requirements: Coal requirement for boiler is 66 MT/D and LSHS /Furnace oil for DG Set 80 TPD after proposed expansion. 11. Green Belt Development: Unit has already developed greenbelt area in 124956.48 sq. m. (33 %) within plant premises. There are shrubs and trees in the greenbelt area. 12. Project Benefits & CSR Activity: The project proponent will conduct health awareness seminars, medical camps, distributing free medicines in surrounding villages; improved Sanitation and Water Supply by constructing Toilets for Boys & Girls and providing Water Tank in nearby village Schools & Colleges Promotion of Sports by distribution of Sports Kit such as Cricket, Football, Volleyball, badminton etc. to the nearby village Schools Blood Donations Camps conducted; tree plantation; Promoting education by running education institutions Executive Summary Page 2 of 2 .

    1. Executive Summary of the Project CHAPTER-1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1.1 Background MMRDA has decided to take up water resources development projects and water supply systems to meet the growing demand of drinking water supply in the Region. The Project includes water supply scheme to bring water from Surya source in order to augment the water supply of western sub-region of MMR. The Surya dam is owned by the Irrigation Department of Govt. of Maharashtra and is situated at about 54 km beyond the boundary line of MMR on north side. Tailrace water released from the hydro power project at the base of the dam is available as a source for proposed 403 MLD Water Supply Scheme to be developed to augment the water supply of western sub-region of MMR. An integrated water supply scheme has to be designed and implemented to Supply Bulk Water to two ULBs, VVCMC & MBMC and MMRDA’s proposed Rental Housing projects in the same area. Water from Surya Reservoir will be released through power house located at the base of the Dam at Dhamni. Tailrace water of the power house flows further into the Kawadas Weir and will be used for the proposed water supply scheme. It is further necessary to lift this water, convey it to the location where it can be treated and further transported by appropriate system to the various ULB’s and groups of villages. The MMRDA has accorded an administrative approval for revised estimated cost of Rs. 1977.29 Crores towards expenditure of proposed 403 Mld Surya Integrated Water Supply Scheme.
