Creative workers like actors, producers, and writers come to L.A. to pursue dreams of stardom, especially in the Hollywood film and television media industries. For most, a “big break” into their chosen field remains perpetually out of reach despite their constant efforts. Expensive workshops like acting classes, networking events, and chance encounters are seen as keys to Hollywood success. Within this world, rumors swirl of big breaks for devotees in the city’s spiritual and religious organizations. For others, it is in consultations with local spiritual advisors like professional psychics that they navigate everyday decisions of how to achieve success in Hollywood.

  • Jessica Volpe Spirituality Is Representative Of
PSYCHIC MEDIUMS AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE DEAD Jessica Volpe Spirituality is representative of all that is intangible, of everything that requires beliefs and faith. Science, on the other hand is representative of logic, fact, and certainty. Recently, science and spirituality have come together, specifically in the realm of afterlife communication. With the current mainstream popularity of psychics and their abilities, a scientific approach has been taken to validate the potential reality of spiritual phenomena. Essentially, the spiritual world and the scientific world, two entities that have usually remained separate, are now beginning to combine. In her book, The Battle for God, Karen Armstrong discusses the concepts of mythos and logos. Mythos is knowledge about the workings of life and what answers life’s questions (xiii). Meanwhile, logos is essentially all that is logical and factual (xiv). In today’s society, there is a pressing need for proof. The mythos aspect of religion is no longer strong enough on its own; what is needed is logos. Consequently, many have begun to turn to psychic ability as proof of an afterlife. James McClenon discusses this issue further in his book, Deviant Science: the Case of Parapsychology, while examining the research regarding spiritual phenomena and its struggle for acceptance. However, the motivation behind the acceptance of psychic evidence in both the scientific as well as the general community must be taken into account. One must consider whether belief and research in spiritual mediums are driven by actual proof or if there is a substantial following simply because people want to believe in communication with the afterlife so badly that they will create evidence to support their claims.

  • Idleness Any Remark on Idleness M Ust Sooner Or Later
Idleness Any remark on idleness m ust sooner or later call out the saying of Claude Tillier, “Le temps le mieux employé est celui qu’on perd”; so that I m ay acknowledge my debt to its suggestiveness from the outset. Som eone m ay, and no doubt will, argue that idleness cannot exist at all, for som e part of our ne rvous system that is connected with neutral activity must always be at work during our waking hours; but conceiving that point as belonging more to the subtleties of psychol ogical discussion that to the chitchat of a semi-dilettante club, one can very well consider that form of idleness corresponding in some degree and sort to the French désoeuvrement, that may be productive of fruit. Now, the aphorism just quoted does undoubtedly like most paradoxes of its kind contain a germ of truth, which of course the author h as expressed in its strongest and most indisputable for m. In the attem pt to bring out this germ from its enclosing of husk of falsity, three pictures have presented them selves to my mind; the first two shewing what possibilities lie in moments of idleness. The others may serve as a contrast. Imagine a warm corner on a tiny island in th e Aegean sea, where between hot red rocks and under a canopy of wild vines there is a sm all stretch of yellow sparkling sand, the resting place for these few moments of idleness of an Ionian Greek with the forehead of a Titan. To him, as he lies there in the sunny s pot, arise from every side figures of various shapes, grouping themselves into the fabled and the real characters in the oldest of epics.

And Katie Hess’s evocative stories, rituals, and reflections show that flowers can truly transform our lives in concrete ways, helping us to connect more deeply with the planet, with others, and with ourselves.” — Arianna Huffington, co-founder, president, and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post “A simply stunning book. Flowerevolution is about to revolutionize the way we think about and use flowers. The author invites us to catalyze our own personal flower evolution and create a positive worldwi de ripple effect. And then she sets out to show us just how to do so in and through our relationship with flowers. Gorgeously illustrated with photos by well-known photographer Louie Schwa rtzberg.” — Rosemary Gladstar, herbalist and author of Rosemary Gladstar’s Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner’s Guide: 33 Healing Herbs to Know, Grow, and Use and Herbal Healing for Women “Flowerevolution is utterly enchanting. Everyone likes flowers. But few of us know how well their essences serve our evolution and well-being. Once you are introduced to the depths of flower power, you’ll begin to see them differently. • The Healing Spirituality of Eastern Orthodoxy: a Personal Journey of Discovery †
religions Article The Healing Spirituality of Eastern Orthodoxy: A Personal Journey of Discovery † Kyriacos C. Markides Department of Sociology, University of Maine Orono, Maine 04469, USA; [email protected]; Tel.: +1-207-581-2390 † I am grateful to my colleague Michael Lewis and my wife Emily Markides for their critical reading of the first draft. Academic Editor: John A. Jillions Received: 4 April 2017; Accepted: 2 June 2017; Published: 8 June 2017 Abstract: It is generally assumed by western scholars and spiritual seekers that mystical, experiential religion and spirituality are primarily a hallmark of the far East, as exemplified by Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and tribal religions like native American shamanism. In this overview, based on thirty years of field research as a sociologist, I have tried to show that such mystical practices and spiritual approaches exist in Eastern Christianity among groups of lay people, as well as in ancient monasteries like those found on Mt. Athos in northern Greece. It is argued that these thousand-year-old practices in the Christian East may contribute to what some thinkers have called the “eye of contemplation”, namely the cultivation of the intuitive, spiritual side of human beings that has been repressed over the centuries because of the dominance of rationalism and scientific materialism. Keywords: Eastern Orthodoxy; mysticism; religion; spirituality; healing It is said that Christianity has two “lungs” one Western and the other Eastern, and that both are needed for proper breathing. It is a metaphor put forward by those who long for the re-establishment of unity that was torn asunder in 1054 when the Pope of Rome and the Patriarch of Constantinople excommunicated each other.
