Directions to the Conference Venue The Conference will be held at the Indian Statistical Institute, 203 B. T. Road (short for Barrackpore Trunk Road), Kolkata 700108. The Indian Statistical Institute campus is located at the northern fringes of the metropolis of Kolkata. The following map helps to locate the Institute in relation of the three entry points of Kolkata. (a) Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (b) Railway Station at Howrah. (c) Railway Staion at Sealdah Indian Statistical Institute Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport Howrah Station Sealdah Station The ISI campus lies approximately twelve kilometers west of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (Dum Dum) Airport. The Institute has two campuses, at 203 B. T. Road (the north campus) and 205 B. T. Road (the south campus). The former is the academic campus, while the latter is the residential campus. The conference will be held in the north (academic) campus, while most of the conference participants staying at ISI will lodge at the south campus (in the Guest House, the ISEC Hostel, or the Boy’s Hostel). In the map below, the shaded brown part is the Indian Statistical Institute. The north campus is the academic campus. The main gate of the north campus is marked as "Indian Statistical Institute" in the map. The south campus is the residential campus. The two campuses are separated by a narrow road (just below ISI post office in the map). However the campuses are connected by an underpass, and you can reach one campus from the other without having to come out on B. T. Road. The crossing around where Sher-e-Punjab Dhaba is marked in the map is called the Bonhooghly crossing (or Bonhooghly more). The entrance to the 205 B. T. Road campus is just to the south of Bonhooghly more. The most important landmark near the ISI campus is the Dunlop Bridge, about 200 meters north of where this map ends (along B. T. Road). It is easy to locate ISI by seeking general directions to Dunlop Bridge. Coming to ISI from the Airport: There are pre-paid taxi booths just before leaving the airport terminal (at the arrival). The charge for non-AC taxi from Airport to ISI Campus at Bonhooghly (the south campus) is approximately Rs. 250-300. These cabs are yellow in colour. It is advisable that you buy the pre-paid taxi coupon before you leave the terminal building. It is better to avoid taxi drivers who are waiting outside the terminal building and promise to negotiate taxis charge depending on the destination. Radio taxis (Mega, Meru, etc) and App-cabs (Uber, Ola, etc.) are also easily available at the airport. If you are coming from the airport by car, you exit at south bound VIP (Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani) Road, then take U-turn at the immediate next traffic light to North bound VIP (Kazi Nazrul Islam Sarani) Road, then briefly get into Jessore Road through airport road followed by a drive down the Belghoria Expressway towards Dunlop Bridge as shown in the figure below. Coming to ISI from the City or the Railway Stations: The ISI campus lies about five kilometers north of the Shyambazar five-point crossing. The Shyambazar five-point crossing is an important landmark in Kolkata. Shyambazar is also an important metro (underground) station. Many commute via underground metro rail to Shyambazar station and then take a bus (Dunlop Bridge bound) or taxi to ISI campus. While there are many buses that ply along B. T. Road, yellow taxis on the street charge approximately Rs. 80-100 to reach ISI campus from Shyambazar. If you are coming from the downtown area or one of the main railway stations (Howrah or Sealdah), you will have to drive past Shyambazar five-point crossing as well as the Chiria More, Sinthi More and Tobin Road crossings. As you approach Dunlop Bridge, the boundary wall of the ISI campus will be visible on your left. The bus stop for the residential (south) campus is called Bonhooghly, while the bus stop for the academic campus is the ISI stop or the Statistical stop. The next bus stop to the north of the ISI stop is Dunlop Bridge. The ISI Campus is approximately twelve kilometers north-east from Howrah station and ten kilometers north from Sealdah station, the two main railway junctions in Kolkata where long- distance trains arrive. Pre-paid taxi booth are available at the taxi stand. It is better to avoid taxi drivers who are waiting outside the terminal building and promise to negotiate taxis charges depending on the destination. App-cabs are also easily available at these places. To come from Howrah station to ISI campus one has to cross the iconic Howrah bridge as shown below. The road from Sealdah station to ISI campus is popularly known as Circular road leading to Shyambazar five-point crossing. The northern part of the Circular Road is called Upper Circular Road (or Acharya P. C. Roy Road), while the southern part is the Lower Circular Road (or Acharya J. C. Bose Road). Buses There are a large number of buses and minibuses that pass by the Institute campus. Almost any bus that goes to Dunlop Bridge passes by the ISI gates. The buses that pass by the ISI gates are 11, 32A, 34B/1, 78, 78/1, 78/2, 78A, 78B, 78C, 201, 214, 230, 234, DN9, DN9/1, L9A, L11, L20, L20A, M1, M2, M6, S9, S11, S32, GL32, GLS32, and SS4. The minibuses plying from Howrah to Nimta/Belgharia/Rathtala, from BBD Bag to Dunlop Bridge, from Babughat to Sodepur/New Barrackpore and from Metiaburuj to Srirampur go past the ISI gates before reaching Dunlop Bridge. While riding the bus from the city, the major bus stops on your way (from south to north) would be Shyambazar, Chiria More, Sinthi More and Tobin Road.
