Determine won the 1954 Kentucky Derby. Out of the mold of Seabiscuit, the legendary winner of the 1939 Santa Anita Handicap, Determine was a small horse with a determined nature. In the Kentucky Derby that year, Determine was the smallest of the 17 entries.
