Figliozzi Scriptural Reflection for the Week “Then [Jesus] called [James and John]. So they le their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.” (see Mark 1:14-20) And imagine how Zebedee, the father of Jesus’ earliest disciples felt! One minute he and his sons were carrying out their usual occupaon and livelihood as fishermen and the next minute he is abandoned by them. He probably was angry with his two sons thinking they were just geng lazy and didn’t want to put in a hard day’s work anymore and he probably was even angrier with Jesus for taking his sons away from him. Many parents today are like Zebedee. They prefer that their children not heed Jesus’ call to follow Him. One way this is demonstrated is by parents who have heir children bapzed but then don’t pracce the Faith in a meaningful way in their home. Another way there is a similarity to Zebedee’s reacon is those parents who enroll their children in Religion Classes but don’t have the me or the interest to take them to Mass. And to go STEWARDSHIP . . . one step further, there are always parents who discourage their child to follow Jesus’ call to them to be a priest or a religious Reflecon rather than be proud of them and pleased to offer their child to the Lord for the sake of His Gospel and Kingdom. Whether it was There is a certain urgency in today’s Gospel as James and John or the other First Apostles of the Lord or young Jesus calls His first disciples Andrew and men and women of today, it is very possible and very much the Simon, James and John. Each one follows Lord’s will to call children from a parcular family to serve Him in Jesus immediately, unhesitatingly abandoning a special way. Why might the one so called answer affirmavely father and fellow - workers, nets and boat. To and drop everything to follow Jesus? Week of Prayer for Chrisan Unity Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power 2018 - Exodus 15:6

At least once a year, Chrisans are reminded of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples that “they may be one so that the world may believe” (see John 17.21). Hearts are touched and Chrisans to pray for their unity.

This years theme: Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power Today Caribbean Chrisans of many different tradions see the hand of God acve in the ending of enslavement. It is a uning experience of the saving acon of God which brings freedom. For this reason the choice of the song of Moses and Miriam (Ex 15: 1-21), as the mof of the Week of Prayer for Chrisan Unity 2018 was considered a most appropriate one. In witnessing to this common hope the churches are working together to minister to all peoples of the region, but parcularly the most vulnerable and neglected. Say a prayer this week for the Unity of all Christians

Eternal God, You belong to no culture and land but are Lord of all, you call us to welcome the stranger in our midst.
