The Gillard Labor Government is committed to ensuring everyone has access to world-class healthcare close to home, no matter where they live. That is why this Federal budget sees an unprecedented $3 billion investment in health reform across Australia, which provides improved public hospitals and cancer facilities, boosts dental care and supports bowel cancer screening and immunisations for children. It also includes the largest Commonwealth commitment to mental health services in Australia’s history including $1.5 billion worth of investments in this Budget.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT The Labor Government’s $2.2 billion Mental Health Reform package provides more intensive support services in those communities that need it most, with a total of 90 Headspace clinics as well as early detection to support young people who struggle with mental illness.
SUBSIDISED MRI SCANS Medicare will cover the cost of more Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans, particularly in regional areas, meaning more people will benefi t from faster diagnosis and early detection of disease.
QUALITY DENTAL CARE The Labor Government will establish a voluntary dental internship program to encourage graduates to expand their skills and work in the public dental system, improving community access to dental services.
CATCH UP VACCINATIONS We are also funding a catch up program for a pneumococcal disease vaccine on the National Immunisation Program for eligible children, to ensure children are better protected.
A Strong Economy for all Australians
