Francisca Flora, Secretary, Vice Principals, Heads of the Departments, Members of the Faculty, Non-Teaching Staff, Members of the Students Union, my dear Students, Parents, Friends, Alumnae, Stakeholders and Media Personnel – A pleasant morning and a hearty welcome to the 66th College Day Celebrations. “HAPPY IS EVERYONE WHO FEARS THE LORD, WHO WALKS IN HIS WAYS.” “YOU SHALL EAT THE FRUIT OF THE LABOR OF YOUR HANDS; YOU SHALL BE HAPPY, AND IT SHALL GO WELL WITH YOU.” - PSALM 128: 1 & 2 FATIMA COLLEGE - 66TH ANNUAL REPORT 2018 - 2019 1 Fatima College in its sustained pursuits to empower young women, develops their capabilities through quality education based on Christian values. In keeping with the vision of the college it adopts variegated, meaningful and innovative methodologies and ventures in a wide array of purposeful activities in its unfaltering march towards academic excellence, character formation, holistic development of the students and in the building up of a just and peaceful society. The academic year 2018 – 2019 bears testimony to it. I feel proud, happy and fortunate to present unto you the Annual Report brimming with triumphs of the staff and the students' during the academic year 2018 – 2019. GRANTS RECEIVED FROM UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION (UGC) The University Grants Commission of India, a statutory body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, helps in maintaining the standards of higher education by disbursing funds to and conferring autonomous status on the college. Financial assistance is provided by UGC to improve teaching/learning/evaluation methodologies, to renovate existing buildings and to engage in extension activities. Minor Research Project 2,26,000 Total 44,46,104 ACCOMPLISHMENTS Fatima College secured the 65th Rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2018 conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the All India “College” category. Recognizing the college's merit and its contribution towards Indian higher education the Government of India has selected it for the following programmes o Study in India Programme launched by EdCIL (India) Limited. o Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) – Government Programme o National Resource Center - Cyber Safety and Security Standards Best Department Award - A National Level Award was conferred by Dr. Abdul Kalam Educational Trust, Chennai on The Research Centre of English on Mar. 15, 2018. Best Social Forum Award - A National Level Award was conferred by Dr. Abdul Kalam Educational Trust, Chennai on the Women Empowerment Animation and Training (WEAT) Programme on Mar. 15, 2018. FATIMA COLLEGE - 66TH ANNUAL REPORT 2018 - 2019 3 As a part of World Blood Donors Day celebration, 130 NSS volunteers participated in உ鎿ரம்’18 (Uthiram) Marathon organised by Blood Donors Club, Madurai Medical College and Govt. Rajaji Hospital, Madurai on July 06, 2018 at Madurai Medical College. On the whole, 250 students from Fatima College actively participated in the event and won the உ鎿ரம் (Uthiram) Trophy. Certificate of Appreciation was given by the Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council, Chennai for organizing a voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Fatima College, Madurai on Sep. 10, 2018. FACULTY AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS AWARDS CONFERRED ON FACULTY - 18 Dr. R. Velankanni Matharasi, Physical Directress and Ms. P. Sumedha, Assistant Professor, Department of English (SF) received the Award for 100% Attendance for the year 2017 – 2018 conferred by Fatima College on March 23, 2018. It is to be noted with pride and joy that Dr. R. Velankanni Matharasi has received it for 9 consecutive years. Dr. S. Arul Micheal Selvi, Assistant Professor, The Research Centre of Tamil received “சாதனையாளர் ힿ쏁鏁 - 2018 (Sadhanaiyalar Virudhu)” from Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore & tsh; jkpo; Ma;T kd;wk; (Valar Tamil Aivu Mandram), Dindigul for பெண்ணிய மமம்ொட்翁 மேவை (Penniya Mempaattu Sevai) on May. 19, 2018. FATIMA COLLEGE - 66TH ANNUAL REPORT 2018 - 2019 5 Dr. Shobana Nelasco, Associate Professor & Head, The Research Centre of Economics was awarded the Best Associate Professor Award an International Academic Excellence Award - 2018 for female category conferred by Environment Advisory for Sustainable Trust (EAST), Tirunelveli. 6 staff received the International Women's Day Women of Excellence Award 2019 conferred by Marti Foundation, Thirumangalam & Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB), Madurai on March 08, 2019. Rose Mary, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics Dr. Mary Magdalene Abraham, Associate Professor, The Research Centre of English Dr. R. Sukumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry won Best Oral Presentation Award in the International Conference on “Innovative Trends in Chemical Science” organised by the Department of Chemistry, Devanga Arts College, Aruppukottai on Feb. 04 & 05, 2019. ACHIEVEMENTS Dr. Vasantha Esther Rani, Associate Professor & Head, The Research Centre of Home Science, delivered a Keynote Address in an International Conference on “World Probiotics and Prebiotics 2018” at San Francisco, USA on Oct. 31, 2018. FATIMA COLLEGE - 66TH ANNUAL REPORT 2018 - 2019 6 Dr. S. Saira Banu, Associate Professor, The Research Centre of English, is selected as one among 358 Master trainers to give training sessions at the Police Wellness Programme conducted to redress the mental and physical stress of the Tamil Nadu Police personnel and their families. This is an initiative taken by the Tamil Nadu Government with the assistance of experts from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bengaluru, who have designed the programme. Over 1.2 lakh police personnel and 3.6 lakh family members will benefit from this Programme. As Phase-I Dr. S. Saira Banu, underwent a 'Training of the Trainers' programme at National institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, from Feb. 04 to 08, 2019. 8 Staff Members cleared Microsoft International Certification on Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) in “Introduction to Programming Using Java” on Dec. 13, 2018 Department of Computer Applications (MCA) Ms. B.
