52 DERBY & FITZROY CROSSING – COMMUNITY & BUSINESS INFORMATION DERBY & FITZROY CROSSING – COMMUNITY & BUSINESS INFORMATION 53 Fitzroy Crossing is 114m above sea level and is surrounded by the flood plains of the Fitzroy River. It has an average annual rainfall of 705.4mm mostly falling between December and March. The average maximum temperature is 36˚C with a minimum of 20.2˚C. The 350 million year old Devonian Reef as seen at Geikie Gorge provides the major landform contrast in the area. Pastoralism, tourism, mining and Aboriginal enterprises are the major industries in the area.
