Origination: Cole, Joseph E. Extent: 882 linear feet Physical Location: Abstract: After the Cleveland Press newspaper ceased publication on June 17, 1982. Joseph E. Cole, its publisher, donated the "morgue" to Cleveland State University. Representing the archived editorial library, sometimes referred to as a "newspaper morgue," topics focus on the news coverage of northeastern Ohio, with national and international news stories holding a secondary level of importance. The Cleveland Press photograph collection is composed of an archive of over one million photographs. Unit ID: PH2000.000PRE Language(s) of the Materials: English History of The Cleveland Press The Cleveland Press, founded by Edward W. Scripps, began as the Penny Press on 2 Nov. 1878. A small, 4-page afternoon daily, the paper continued to prosper. Shortened to the Press in 1884, and finally the Cleveland Press in 1889, by 1903 the Press was Cleveland's leading daily newspaper. As it entered the 1920s, the Press neared 200,000 in circulation. Louis B. Seltzer became the 12th editor of the Press in 1928, and under his 38-year stewardship the Press became one of the country's most influential newspapers. Seltzer readjusted its original working-class bias into a less controversial neighborhood orientation, stressing personal contacts and promoting the slogan "The Newspaper That Serves Its Readers." In the postwar period the Press continued its public service campaigns and remained an unrivaled force in Ohio politics.

U.S. General Services Administration CONSUMER ACTION HANDBOOK CONSUMER ACTION HANDBOOK CONTRIBUTORS Oce of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies/18F January 2016 Congratulations for using the Consumer Action Handbook! You’ve taken the first step to being an informed consumer. The Handbook gives you practical tips that help you with consumer issues. Maybe you want to buy a car or choose an insurance plan. Or maybe you need to learn how to write a complaint letter about a deceptive business or damaged product. The Consumer Action Handbook is a good place to start, for these tasks and many more. To make sure the Handbook addresses the topics that matter to you, we held focus groups to hear directly from people like you. The lively conversations and comments inspired some exciting new features, including a new “Seniors” section. You’ll find agencies, hotlines, and resources that are dedicated to empowering and protecting seniors. Several people in the focus groups also said that they needed more information about scams. Now each section of the Handbook includes a box featuring the common signs of scams in that topic area, along with steps you can take to avoid being a victim, and the agencies you can contact for help. USAGov is committed to guiding you to the tools, forms, and services you need. In addition to this Handbook and the Spanish version, the Guía del Consumidor, we offer other bilingual information. This includes our websites USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov, government information by phone, toll free at 1-844-USA-GOV1, email, and online chat services.

ISBN 0-9652300-2-3 Distributed by Tri-Cities Historical Museum 200 Washington Street 2 Grand Haven, MI 49417 Author’s Note More than a dozen years ago, I began work on a systematic “biographical dictionary” that would provide sketches of the lives of people who contributed in large ways and small to the culture, economy, and quality of life of Northwest Ottawa County. I didn’t realize I had undertaken a project without end, that it is a continuing work in progress, an evolving organism. The People Directory has grown to include biographical sketches of thousands of people who lived in this area between the eighteenth and the twenty-first centuries. While the People Directory is not a complete census of everyone who ever resided in Northwest Ottawa County, it is far more extensive than I ever thought possible. To complement the biographies, I recorded where those people lived and worked in Directory of Buildings and Sites, followed by Directory of Businesses, Industries, and Other Organizations, which summarized the life spans of the hundreds of manufactories, retail stores, and non-profit groups in which area residents worked.
