ai Issue 125 – 28th September 2019 Hello, and welcome to the latest Anglo German Racing Newsletter of 2019! In this 2 week edition, we review the German St. Leger at Dortmund, and the Group 1 Preis von Europa at Cologne, both of which saw victories for English-trained runners. We also look back at an exciting steeplechase in Mannheim, and preview a Group 3 contest in Düsseldorf. Further afield, we review the Austrian Derby, the biggest steeplechase of the year in Slovakia, and victory for a Scottish jockey in one of Scandinavia’s biggest races, the Stockholm Cup. We also look back at victory for a former English trained horse in Kazakhstan’s richest race of the year. Looking ahead, we preview a big race in Poland and one of mainland Europe’s richest steeplechases, the 250,000 Euro Gran Premio Merano Alto Adige in the Italian Alps. For all the very latest information, please follow our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/anglogermanracing or check out our website at www.anglogermanracing.com . Don’t forget that we are now also on Twitter at https://twitter.com/AngloGerRacing Darren Thrussell, Editor Photo left: The Stanislav Popelka trained AL BUSTAN, who aims to repeat his victory in the 2017 Group 1 Gran Premio Merano Alto Adige, one of mainland Europe’s top steeplechases, when this year’s renewal of the race takes place at Merano in the Italian Alps on Sunday, and there is a preview on page 8 of this newsletter (Archive photo copyright Stefanie Ihlenburg / Anglo German Racing).

  • Big Finish to Gold Cup Thriller Cont
FRIDAY, 23 JUNE, 2017 TIPPERARY ON TOP ON DAY TO REMEMBER BIG FINISH TO GOLD CUP By Emma Berry THRILLER As is the tradition at Royal Ascot, the post-race picnics have lasted long into the night this week and guests at Wednesday's traditional Irish gathering had plenty of reason to celebrate. For two small breeding partnerships in Tipperary, Tuesday's results were particularly special. The opening race, the G1 Queen Anne S., went to Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}), bred by Mike O'Brien and Andrew Thompson, and 35 minutes later it was the turn of their neighbour Jim Mulcahy, who bred G2 Coventry S. winner Rajasinghe (Ire) (Choisir {Aus}) in partnership with his son Geoff. "It's difficult to believe--it was really amazing," said Mulcahy senior, a veterinary surgeon from Kilshane. "We came to Ascot hoping that he might run into a place and he surpassed all our expectations. The congratulations we've had from every Tom, Dick and Harry--my phone has nearly blown up. We drank a few bottles of Pimm's and then we drank a few more after that. It won't wear off for a while." cont. p11 A celebratory James Doyle aboard Big Orange | racingfotos.com IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Surprisingly making his first attempt at Royal Ascot=s HORSES SAVING VETS, VETS SAVING HORSES showpiece G1 Gold Cup, popular journeyman Big Orange (GB) Bill Finley profiles Earle Mack’s Man O’ War Project. (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) slugged out a pulsating finish with Click or tap here to go straight to TDN America.

  • Lord North Pounces in Prince of Wales=S S
THURSDAY, 18 JUNE 2020 LORD NORTH POUNCES IN RUSSIAN EMPEROR SWOOPS IN THE HAMPTON COURT PRINCE OF WALES=S S. Bouncing out of Leopardstown=s G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, Ballydoyle=s Russian Emperor (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) demonstrated the buoyant health of his stable by landing a strong renewal of the G3 Hampton Court S. on Wednesday. Second eight days ago racing against the bias at that Foxrock venue, Laurie Macri and Coolmore=s 10-3 second favourite was delivered from rear by Ryan Moore with a surge to overwhelm the 9-4 favourite First Receiver (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) in the final yards. With full momentum as he crossed the line, the son of the triple Group 1 heroine Atlantic Jewel (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) forged a half-length success over The Queen=s representative, with 1 1/4 lengths back to Berlin Tango (GB) (Dansili {GB}) who was excelling under a four-pound penalty. AHe is a lovely horse that is straightforward and has a great Lord North | Racing Post attitude,@ commented Ryan Moore after steering a landmark 60th Royal winner. AHe was very professional--he has had the With Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in her box at Clarehaven, benefit of a couple of runs this year and let=s see if he will keep John Gosden could have been forgiven for giving up on the 2020 progressing. He has a very good pedigree--his dam was G1 Prince of Wales=s S. but instead he unleashed a secret exceptional in Australia. I think he will be a nice horse going weapon in the hugely-progressive Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi forward for the rest of the year.@ Cont.
