It is extremely harmful to look at the Moon on Ganesh-Chaturthi. Therefore be very careful not to look at the moon on that night. If one happens to look at the Moon on the night of Ganesh-Chaturthi, then no matter how innocent one is, one will definitely be defamed. Even Lord Krishna was accused of having stolen the ‘Syamantak Mani’ because of looking at the Moon on this night. However, if you look at the Moon on the 3rd and 5th nights of that lunar month, the harmful effects caused by seeing the Moon on the 4th lunar night is countered. In any case, if by mistake you do happen to look at the Moon on this night, read or listen to the episode narrating the theft of the Syamantak Mani as described in the 56th and 57th chapters of the tenth Skanda of the Srimad Bhagawata . Ill Effects of Chandra Darshan & it’s Remedies Sri Ganesha (Vinayak) Chaturthi On the 4th day of the bright half of Bhadrapad (August-September), the great festival of Ganesh or Ganpati is celebrated. This festival marked the birthday of Lord Ganesh. Ganpati is one of the most popular deities. Both Shaivites and Vaishnavites worship him. Even Buddhists and Jains have respect for Ganpati. He is considered to be an avatar of both Shiva and Vishnu.

From Gods to Godhead INTRODUCTION The gods of Hinduism have successfully created enough confusion in the minds of the followers of alien faiths who have chanced to come across them. Even more successfully have they created enough conflicts among the Hindus themselves! It is ignorance that causes confusion and creates conflicts. Hence, discovering this ignorance and dispelling it should automatically lead to clearing the confusions and resolving the conflicts. There is the story of the atheist who vehemently preached throughout his life that neither God nor soul existed, praying at the last moment of his life thus: '0 God, if there is a God, save my soul, if there is one!' This story may sound funny, but, nevertheless, it poignantly reveals man's psychological necessity for God. Belief in God has sustained mankind for millennia. Faith in and adoration of gods and goddesses has fulfilled a practical necessity in the lives of millions of the ordinary Hindus.

Especially in western and southern part of India we have a rich imagery of Ganesha. The Hindu, Jain and Buddhist pantheon have accepted and popularised him, and certain images seem to be unique. Following paper will cover three unique forms of this elephant headed God. 1. Ganeshayani or Vinayaki the female Shakti or energy of Ganesha found in villages and in late chalukyan temples in Maharashtra. 2. Ucchista Ganesha or Ganesha with his consort Siddhi. Since Ganesha is the Lord of Education this form of Ganesha is given to a newly wedded bride as a form of sex education. 3. Parshva Yaksha or the elephant headed Yaksha who replaces Dharnendra as a Yaksha for Parshvanatha in Shvetambara sect in Jainism. a. Ganeshayani b. Ucchista Ganesha c. Parshva Yaksha A sculptural form of Ganeshayani or Vighneshwari is observed on a pillar in the late Chalukyan temple at Bhuleshwara near Yavat in Pune. The next temple is dedicated to Shiva. However the Ucchista Ganesha image is mainly a metallic icon, a granite statue of it is seen in the mukha mandapa of the Shaktivaneshwara temple, Tanjore, Tamilnadu. Following temple belongs to the medieval period. The Parshva yaksha has a turtle as its vehicle unlike the Mushaka or a mouse. He is a Shasana yaksha and a protector and bestower of Vidyas and hence sometimes the Jain followers worship him as Ganesha.

In Hindu religion, we can see different forms of God and Goddess. ‘Gaṇśeani or Vināyaki’ is seen as a Hasti-mukh (Elephant headed) Goddess. The name Gaṇśeani is not found in the list of the śaktis of Gaṇeśa like other similar Goddess (as Brahmani, Indrani and Mahesavari are the sakits of Brahma, Indra and Mahesvara). Vināyaki’s worship was not much popular in Ancient India. Vināyaki is seen in the list of the Yoginis and other Goddesses. We can see Vināyaki’s images along with other Yoginis in some of the famous Chaunsatha-Yoginis temples. Vināyaki is seen in Hindu as well as in Jain and Buddhist religion. INTRODUCTION Religion is a positive unit of society, which is created by the society for its smooth functioning in regards to the legislation and regulation. Any deity is a cumulative creation of the society’s ideals, aspirations and necessary value system. Religion and Society cannot be seen in isolation. Present paper describes with one of such deity, ‘Gaṇśeani, Vināyaki’, which demonstrates the inter- connection of society and religion. The name Gaṇśeani is not found in the list of the śaktis of Gaṇeśa like other similar Goddess (as Brahmani, Indrani and Mahesavari are the sakits of Brahma, Indra and Mahesvara).
