SMITH – SÁNDOR ANDRIKOVICH – DÁVID MURÁNYI ABSTRACT: Four specimens of Haplotaxis gordioides (Oligochaeta:Haplotaxidae) were collected on 10 January 1998 and 21 February 1998 from unfiltered, unchlorinated indoor tap water in Járdánháza, Heves- Borsodi Hills, Hungary. Morphological characteristics are discussed. This is the first reported collection of Haplotaxis gordioides in Hungary. Haplotaxid worms are primitive oligochaetes (BRINKHURST, 1984, 1992, 1994), found primarily in groundwater. The family has a cosmopolitan distribution, but many species are restricted to specific locales or habitats (BRINKHURST, 1978; BRINKHURST & JAMIE- SON, 1971). Also, because haplotaxids are rarely collected, detailed distribution patterns for most individual species are lacking. BRINKHURST and JAMIESON (1971) described the distribution of Haplotaxis gordioides as Holarctic and he listed several areas of Europe where it has been, or is expected to be found (BRINKHURST, 1978). The oligochaete fauna of Hungary is poorly known (FERENCZ, 1979). To date, Haplotaxis gordioides has not been collected from Hungary, although it was included in keys by AND- RÁSSY (1955) and FERENCZ (1979) as potentially occurring in the oligochaete fauna of the region. The purpose of this paper is to report the collection of Haplotaxis gordioides for the first time from Hungary and to provide information on some morphological characteristics. Species belong to the following three families: Glossoscolecidae: Andiodrilus nonuya sp. nov., Andiorrhinus (Turedrilus) yukuna sp. nov., Pontoscolex (Pontoscolex) bora sp. nov., and Pontoscolex corethrurus (Müller, 1857); Acanthodrilidae: Dichogaster (Diplothecodrilus) affinis (Michaelsen, 1890), Dichogaster (Diplothecodrilus) bolaui (Michaelsen, 1891), and Dichogaster (Diplothecodrilus) saliens (Beddard, 1893); and Ocnerodrilidae: Ocnerodrilus occidentalis Eisen, 1878. With these new records, the earthworm fauna of Colombia now contains 139 species. Keys to differentiate species of Andiodrilus Michaelsen, 1900, Andiorrhinus (Turedrilus) Righi, 1993, and Pontoscolex (Pontoscolex) (Müller, 1857) are provided. Key words. Testing Species Hypotheses for Fridericia Magna, an Enchytraeid Worm (Annelida: Clitellata) with Great Mitochondrial Variation

This raised the need for testing whether the taxon is a single species or a complex of cryptic species. Results: A total of 62 specimens from 38 localities were included in the study, 44 of which were used for species delimitation. First, the 44 specimens were divided into clusters using ABGD (Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery) on two datasets, consisting of sequences of the mitochondrial markers COI and 16S. For each dataset, the worms were divided into six not completely congruent clusters. When they were combined, a maximum of seven clusters, or species hypotheses, were obtained, and the seven clusters were used as input in downstream analyses. We tested these hypotheses by constructing haplowebs for two nuclear markers, H3 and ITS, and in both haplowebs the specimens appeared as a single species. Multi-locus species delimitation analyses performed with the Bayesian BPP program also mainly supported a single species. Furthermore, no apparent morphological differences were found between the clusters. Two of the clusters were partially separated from each other and the other clusters, but not strongly enough to consider them as separate species. All 62 specimens were used to visualise the Scandinavian distribution, of the species, and to compare with published COI data from other Fridericia species. -

Water is regularly sprinkled over the feed. The water mixes in the feed and oily content of earthworms body and slowly drains out from earthworm beds. The outgoing liquid is a concentrate with nutrients which is very beneficial for plants growth. This liquid is called vermiwash. The vermiwash is potential application in sustainable development for agriculture and biotechnology. This attempt deals with assessment the physico-chemical, nutritional and biochemical status of the vermiwash obtained using the popular composting earthworm species Eudrillus eugeniae (Kinb.) (Eudrilidae: Haplotaxida) and Lampito mauritii from three different leaf litters namely, Mango (Mangifera indica), Guava (Psidium guajava) and Sapota (Achrus sapota). The results showed substantial increase in the nutrient quality of the vermiwash produced with time in all of three cases. However, the vermiwash produced from guava leaf litter showed more content of electrical conductivity, magnesium, calcium, nitrite, phosphorus, carbohydrate, protein, lipid and amino acid compared with the vermiwash produced from the other two sapota and mango leaf litter by using the both earthworm species Eudrillus eugeniae and Lampito mauritii respectively. -

James University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center, Dyche Hall, 1345 Jayhawk Drive, Lawrence, KS 66045, USA Received 20 May 2003; accepted 20 April 2004 Abstract Fourteen species new to science are described from material collected at several sites in the Blue Mountains and the John Crow Mountains of eastern Jamaica, doubling the known endemic Jamaican earthworm fauna. New data on Dichogaster montecyanensis (Sims) are provided. All species are placed in the genus Dichogaster Beddard, which is here treated sensu lato, i.e. including Eutrigaster Cognetti. Eight of the new species have lost the posterior pair of prostates and the seminal grooves of the male field. These are D. bromeliocola, D. crossleyi, D. davidi, D. garciai, D. harperi, D. haruvi, D. hendrixi, and D. johnsoni. D. sydneyi n. sp. has independently lost the posterior prostates but not the seminal grooves. The new species D. altissima and D. manleyi have the conventional dichogastrine prostatic battery and male field characteristics. Three species described here, D. farri, D. garrawayi, and D. marleyi, all have a third pair of prostates in the 20th segment, no seminal grooves, dorsal paired intestinal caeca in segment lxv, and lack penial setae. r 2004 Elsevier GmbH.
