2014.5 Jetta Release VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. Media Information 2200 Ferdinand Porsche Drive Herndon, Virginia 20171 (703) 364-7000 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE www.media.vw.com @VWNews CONTACT: Mark Gillies Leigh Anne Sessions 703-364-7104 703-364-7197 [email protected] [email protected] 2014 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA: NEW 1.8-LITER TURBO ENGINE ADDED TO THE BRAND’S BEST SELLER The new EA888 Gen 3 engine replaces the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine in the SE and SEL trim levels, offering highly competitive fuel economy and performance New 1.8T engine offers a 5 mpg improvement in EPA estimated fuel economy on the highway cycle (automatic transmission) Volkswagen Car-Net™ connected services now available on selected Jetta trims All Jetta models now feature a multilink independent rear suspension Jetta models from the SE trim up now have electric power-assisted steering Available with five powertrains, ranging from frugal to sporty Jetta GLI Edition 30 models celebrate three decades of the GLI Herndon, VA — The Jetta remains Volkswagen’s best-selling car, three years after the sixth- generation car was introduced to the U.S. market as a 2011 model. But Volkswagen never rests on success and is continuously striving to make its vehicles even better. The 2014 model Jetta is proof of this philosophy. Under hood, the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine in the SE and SEL trim lines has been replaced by a new 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injection four-cylinder engine, carrying the EA888 Gen 3 designation. The engine makes 170 horsepower (the same as the 2.5) and 184 pound- feet of torque (7 lb-ft more, delivered lower in the rev range). Equipped with an automatic transmission, it also has an EPA estimated fuel economy figure of 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, an improvement of five mpg on the highway over the outgoing 2.5-liter engine. The new engine runs on regular unleaded gasoline. VW’s engineers also made some other significant mechanical improvements for 2014. On the cars fitted with the available 1.8T engine, the hydraulic power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering has been replaced by an electric-assist system, in line with the TDI and GLI models. All 2014 Jetta models now have a multilink rear suspension, replacing the previous torsion- beam layout on the 2.0L S, 2.5L SE, 2.5L SEL, and TDI Clean Diesel models. Inside, the Media Device Interface (MDI) cable has been relocated from the glovebox to the center console, while SEL, TDI with Premium, and TDI with Premium and Navigation trims receive a rearview camera. The SE with Connectivity and Sunroof adds Keyless access with push-button start. A navigation system and automatic transmission are now standard on the SEL Finally, Volkswagen introduced its VW Car-Net™ connected services on the Jetta lineup. VW Car-Net—which has a six-month no-charge trial period—offers a wealth of security and convenience features, including Automatic Crash Notification, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle location assistance. In addition, VW Car-Net adds: remote vehicle access; boundary and speed alerts; a vehicle health report; and an enhanced POI service on vehicles equipped with a navigation system. Most of the features can be administered through a handy smartphone app for iPhone® and Android® devices. Exterior Marketing experts call it “class-up appeal”. It’s the offering of more, for less. Which is why, when Volkswagen completely redesigned the Jetta for the 2011 model year, it crafted a bigger car, with a longer wheelbase and 2.9 inches added to the overall length. The increased dimensions allowed designers to incorporate clear, precise lines and muscular surfaces to impart a timeless elegance, giving the impression that this is a car from a higher class. At the front, the coupe-like incline of the windscreen and the consistent use of horizontal lines define the Jetta’s design. The horizontal blades in the grille, together with the blades in the lower intake, are designed to make the Jetta appear wider and more dynamic. To break-up the tall body sides of the 2014Jetta, Volkswagen brand head of design Klaus Bischoff and his team created a pronounced character line—a “tornado” line. This cuts through the large side surfaces, running as a sharp crease from the rearmost edge of the headlight, beneath the windows, softening-out as it reaches the rear lights. To give visual weight to the lower part of the Jetta and impart a sense of the car being ‘planted’ to the road, the base of the doors is eased outwards. The pronounced wheelarches also add visual width and weight to the car. The GLI features a more dynamic look than the regular Jetta, courtesy of its honeycomb grille, a deeper front spoiler, and GTI-style vertical foglights and red-painted brake calipers. At the rear, there are smoked taillights and dual exhaust tips. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first GLI, Volkswagen will sell the car only as an Edition 30 in two trim levels: the Edition 30 and the Edition 30 with Navigation. The GLI Edition 30 is distinguished externally by 18-inch “Laguna” aluminum-alloy wheels, red trim on the front grille, a trunklid-mounted spoiler, and Edition 30 badging. The Edition 30 with Navigation also has red trim inside the Bi-Xenon headlights. Inside, the Edition 30 benefits from contrasting color V-Tex leatherette seats with red accents; red contrast stitching on the steering wheel, shifter, brake lever, and armrests; carbon-look trim inlays; Edition 30 kickplates; and floormats with red stitching. The car will be available in four colors: Deep Black Metallic, Pure White, Tornado Red, and Reflex Silver Metallic. The Edition 30 is extremely well equipped, with standard features such as front foglights; LED taillights; leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, brake lever, and shift knob; Premium VIII touchscreen radio with SiriusXM® Satellite Radio; and Bluetooth® connectivity. The Edition 30 with Navigation adds: Keyless access with push-button start; the RNS® 315 touchscreen navigation system; a rearview camera; LED daytime running lights; and Bi-Xenon headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System. Pricing will be announced at a later date. Interior A key benefit of the Jetta’s extended wheelbase—it stretches an incredible 104.4 inches—is a truly spacious interior, with impressive rear-seat legroom of 38.1 inches. Long legs can rejoice. The gently arcing roofline also means more than ample headroom of 37.1 inches for rear-seat passengers. And stretch-out legroom in the back isn’t achieved by a cramped front seat either. Being tailored for an American audience, there is no shortage of legroom and headroom up front. Just open any of the Jetta’s wide-angled doors and the quality of materials, the fit and finish, and the clean, simple, refined elegance of the cabin is clearly visible. And in true German tradition, the layout of the fascia, the positioning of the switches and controls, and the clarity of the oversized, round instruments is designed to be ergonomic and intuitive. Trunk space also borders on the cavernous. The Jetta offers a class-leading 15.5 cubic feet of usable trunk space, and can be increased significantly by folding forward the 60/40-split rear seatback. The rear seatback is also offered with a pass-through to accommodate longer items, like skis. Even the entry-level Jetta models come extremely well-equipped. The Jetta 2.0L S, with a starting MSRP of $16,720, has standard air conditioning, one-touch auto up/down power windows, power locks with keyless entry, aux-in for the radio/CD player, and power heated exterior mirrors. Move up to the SE and additional standard features include: heatable front seats; cruise control; standard V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces; an adjustable center armrest with storage compartment; a six-speaker sound system; and a Media Device Interface (MDI) with iPod® adapter. Premium features that are available on Jetta include: a six-way power driver’s seat; a leather- wrapped multifunction steering wheel; a soft-touch dashboard; two-tone V-Tex leatherette sport seats; the RNS 315 navigation system; the acclaimed Fender® Premium Audio System; Keyless access with push-button start; VW Car-Net™ connected services; Bluetooth® connectivity; and a rearview camera. Exterior enhancements include a chrome radiator grille and chrome window trim. Fender® Premium Audio System: The remarkable Fender Premium Audio System comes standard with the 2014 Jetta SEL; the TDI® Clean Diesel with Premium and the TDI with Premium and Navigation models; and the GLI Autobahn and GLI Autobahn with Navigation models. Developed through collaboration between Fender and Panasonic®, the system cranks out 400 watts of power played through nine speakers, including a trunk-mounted subwoofer, to bring the raw emotion of a live music performance to the driving experience. And the same cool, chromed Fender logo that has graced the guitar “amps” of some of the world’s greatest rock legends is featured on the A-pillar tweeters on the Jetta’s Fender sound system. Engines and Transmission Volkswagen pioneered the use of small displacement, highly efficient turbocharged and direct- injection engines in the U.S., starting with the EA113 engine in the 2006 Jetta GLI and GTI. Since then, Volkswagen’s EA888 four-cylinder has set the benchmark for small-displacement turbocharged engines, beginning with the 2009 CC. The Jetta 1.8T SE and SEL models feature a new EA888 Gen 3 turbocharged and direct- injected four-cylinder engine that is made in Silao, Mexico. This 1.8-liter engine produces 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque—the same power, but seven pound-feet more torque, delivered lower in the engine speed range than the 2.5-liter five-cylinder powerplant.

  • Mazda. Always the Soul of a Sports Car.®
All children instinctively know it. A few adults still remember it. One unique car company refuses to outgrow it. In grown-up language, it means the exhilaration and liberation that come from experiencing sheer motion. But as usual, children put it much better. And simply call it Zoom-Zoom. We practice it every day. ® It’s why we build the kind of cars we do. Mazda. Always the soul of a sports car. Mazda. Always the soul of a sports car.® PRODUCT CHANGES AND OPTIONS AVAILABILITY. • Mazdaspeed3 2007
2007 MAZDASPEED3 The MazdaSpeed3 is the liveliest addition yet to the Mazda3 line-up. Mazda chose the hatchback model to receive a 263-hp, 2.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection engine. A six-speed manual transmission is mandatory, and unlike the MazdaSpeed6, the Speed3 cannot be obtained with all-wheel drive. The Speed3 runs on 18-inch wheels, and it is available in red only this year. Interior and cargo area The front sport seats are easily accessible and very comfortable, with a multitude of adjustments and side supports worthy of the name. As long as they are not too husky in build, occupants will find their seat holds them very snugly in place. Drivers quickly find a very good driving position thanks to the tilt/telescopic steering column. The narrow rear doors complicate entry to the back seat, and getting out is a bit of a struggle because of limited foot space. The rear bench has a 60/40 split-fold backrest. Seating is comfortable for two, with good legroom and enough headroom for tall people. The rear hatch opens wide to provide access to a roomy cargo area. The bumper protrudes enough to make it easy to get dirty when loading or unloading the trunk. The hatch opening mechanism gets your hand dirty nearly every time you use it, and snow or worse, ice on the bumper may make it difficult to access. Photo: Mazda Convenience and safety features Fit and finish are excellent and the quality of the materials is good. However, our test car had a few creaks and rattles, especially in back.
