MANNING — For a group of seven Manning High School seniors, Saturday will mark a momentous day. Not only will they earn their high school diplomas as part of the school’s Class of 2017, but the group has the unique distinction of al- ready having earned a two-year as- sociate degree. The seven represent the first area graduates from Central Carolina Technical College’s Early College Program, where high school stu- dents earn college credit by taking college courses during their junior and senior years. Some students, if highly motivated, have the opportu- nity to finish off an entire associate degree — and these seven met that mark. They include Valedictorian Jabril Wilson, Salutatorian Jesse Surette, Quadri Bell, Bailee Gar- neau, Ryan Hinson, James Thomp- son and Jared Thompson. LEGION BASEBALL Big hits, costly mistakes Two HRs, Jets miscues help Post 68 power past Dalzell-Shaw 14-4 BY EDDIE LITAKER Special To The Sumter Item

DALZELL — Manning-Santee took advantage of two long balls and some fielding woes from Dalzell-Shaw to come away with a 14-4 American Legion baseball win on Wednesday at General Field. Post 68 got the scoring started in the second with some help from the Jets outfield. Buddy Bleasdale took second as Post 175 centerfielder Ron York failed to clutch the fly ball and ad- vanced to third as leftfielder Eric Lisenby could not haul in a Trent Frye fly. D-S starting Josh Barnett rallied to retire the next two batters, but would not es- cape the inning unscathed as a Bobby Crisp triple, Jake Jordan single, Taylor Lee bunt single and Morgan Morris single pushed across five runs. M-S went up 9-0 after three innings after a Molik Brown single, Frye hit by pitch, RBI single by Floyd and a 3-run by Crisp. Two more runs came across in the fourth as Morgan Morris reached on an infield single, Brown was hit by a pitch and Frye and Bray- don Osteen came through with RBI singles. “Those errors killed us,” Dal- zell-Shaw head coach Jamey Lisenby said of the early 11-0 hole his team faced. “We got down early, and I did tell them I was proud that we were down and we came back and we fought. We just couldn’t get any momentum going. We would come back, we’d get three or four and they’d come in and score one. It was just bad baseball tonight, bad baseball.
