IF Marty Hallinan had his way, Malfoy would have been lining up for a 600m race at Richmond instead of taking out the Group 1 Brisbane Cup (520m) at Albion Park. Because that’s exactly what Hallinan thought was the best plan of attack for the son of Token Prince-Many Tricks. “Ron and Christine (Oldfield, the dog’s trainers) said they wanted to take him south to run in the Melbourne Cup,” Hallinan told The Journal. “I told them they were wasting their time. I thought it was best he be tried as a stayer with a few runs around Richmond over 600m before stepping up to longer distances. “But the Oldfields train the dog and I told them to do what they thought was best.” It is history now that Malfoy made the Melbourne Cup final and was then invited into the Topgun. Marty and his wife Fiona were there “with bells on” for both nights savouring the glamour of such big race nights. “After those runs, Ron said he and Christine wanted to

The (February, 2005) Journal Page 9 The export of frozen semen from Australian stud dogs to the United States has been banned from early in 2005. GARY GUCCIONE (US NGA) explains ... THE United States and Australia have had an open-door exchange program going for several years with respect to Frozen Semen, the major requirement being that any exported or imported semen from either of the countries is properly registered with the respective domestic registry. While each country has its own set of rules governing FI matings, one rule in particular led to the NGA’s recent decision to discontinue the program with Australia, the one involving the splitting of semen from the same ejaculate. While the US permits the splits from the same ejaculate be used to breed different females, this is not permitted in Australia. Under this situation, Australian semen from a single ejaculate has been split a number of different times, exported to the US and used in several different females. This is economically practical for Australian breeders.
