As Col Plough- man reflected on his years of service and experiences at the Wing, he knew that this would be the last time he would do so as Wing Commander of 12 Wing Shearwater. “I assumed command of 12 Wing on June 27, 2007; just shy of two years ago,” said Col Plough- man. “I can remember training and flying here as a Lieutenant with my good friend, Col Sam Michaud, who’s now taking over as the new Wing Commander.” Col Ploughman thanked all Wing members for their continued efforts and service to 12 Wing while under his command, proudly reminding everyone how their contributions have allowed the CH124 Sea King helicopter to be the most opera- tionally deployed aircraft in the CF. He concluded by making a spe- cial thanks. “Civilians are the backbone of this Wing and of the CF as a whole. We [as CF members] could not do what we do, without the strong support we receive from our families. I thank my wife and family for their continuous understanding that allows me to ful- fill my commitments to Canada, at home and abroad.” The signing of the change of com- mand certificates with MGen Duval officially marked the conclusion of Col Ploughman’s command and the beginning of Col Michaud’s com- mand at the Wing. “I am very honored and deeply humbled to accept this position and its responsibilities, and at the same time, saddened to see my good friend, Col Ploughman, leave the Wing,” said Col Michaud during his first statement as Wing Commander of 12 Wing. “I have no doubt of 12 Wing’s ability to meet our opera- tional requirements.” MGen Duval echoed Col Michaud’s optimism for the Wing’s future. “The challenges of 12 Wing and of the CF have been many, but Col Ploughman, wearing a tack vest and helmet, departed the change of command ceremony in a G-wagon.
