( Q and A with Game Play Notes) (PLEASE TAKE NOTE) (Italic are present in the current charts) 1. Outfield Range Play: Is the (+2 two outs) adjustment on the sending runners chart just for runners on base? For example: We had a outfield range play with over the head and centerfield and a speed of 7 or higher could try for inside the park home run using the sending runner's chart. Does the two out adjustment apply in this case? ANSWER: No. The batter does not get the +2 adjustment. The +2 adjustment is for base runners on batter balls on hits only. 2. Crazy Play (#51-85) that reads: Batter hit by pitch. Dugouts and bullpens empty into an all-out brawl! Pitcher and batter are both ejected from the game. Check each for injury. How many games is the pitcher suspended if he is a starter that is pitching in relief due to injury and suspensions? ANSWER: One game since he did not start the game per the Diamond Chart. 3. Crazy Play # 350-387 is rolled Pitcher is out of gas and is now exhausted. Does the pitcher have to be removed immediately? ANSWER: No. The pitcher can stay in the game and pitch exhausted (fatigued) until two base runner’s reach base. This will give relief pitchers time to warm-up in the bullpen if none are warmed up. Otherwise the relief pitcher enters the game exhausted (fatigued) if not warmed up in the bullpen. 4. Crazy Play #432-438 is rolled. Foul ball near the opponent’s dugout is chased down by the catcher who crashes into the dugout and yesterday’s starting pitcher! Catcher does not make the putout. Check for injuries to both. Which starting pitcher to you roll for since we usually play two games at once in the ABL? ANSWER: For ABL purposes, yesterday’s starting pitcher is the pitcher who pitched in the previous game regardless when the game was played. For example: If you are rolling game two, then it’s the game one starter who is considered as yesterday’s starting pitcher. The team that is batting pitcher is crashed into. This play simulates when a catcher is chasing a foul ball and the opponent's dugout won't help him out and he'll fall into the dugout. If both players were injured, both teams would lose a player. If it is the first game of the season, then ignore and re-roll the at bat. If it is the first game of the season, then only check injury of the catcher. ABL in 2021: With the possibility MLB won’t play in 2020 and TPB won’t produce a card set, the league office is mulling over different scenarios to play ball in 2021. Please keep any 2019 cards thar are currently not being used. It’s possible we’ll use some of those cards in the 2021 season. If you don’t have the cards, the league office has extras at the league office. Stay tuned as we continue to look at different avenues to play ball in 2021. FUTURE ABL MANAGERS: Reminder to all managers that if you find someone interested in baseball let’s get them started in the ABL Developmental Plan playing practice games. Contact the Commish for a sample set of cards/charts and start teaching the ABL’s next Billy Martin the excitement of tabletop baseball. ABL Developmental Plan Guidelines: At a minimum new perspective managers, must complete the following: 1. Two practice games with an ABL Manager with score sheets. 2. One practice game with an ABL Manager on the dice roller. 3. Submit one recap of one of the practice games to be included in Around the Diamond. 4. Total of three practice games must be completed with ABL Managers. 5. Then the new perspective manager should request an ABL Expansion Application if an opening is available or request to put added to the expansion team waiting list. 6. Finally, the new perspective manager should pay the $60 operational fee once their ABL Expansion Application is approved. Team has been inconsistent and the starting pitching woes are understandable, but the lack of bats now is heartbreaking. I’m only writing this b/c Len and his boys are nice people. If this were a series against Bruce, or even worse, Chris, I wouldn’t provide anything meaningful and respectful this time around. Here goes. Wheeler has been terrible and it got worse. He squared off against Mr. Sanchez. Rosario hit a solo shot in the 1st and that was the theme - solo shots by the Perfectos, all on the batters’ card. Four in total to be exact. Edwin Enacranaccciononoccion hit one in the 2nd, Rosario again in the 3rd, Lowe in the 5th and Machado in the 5th. Titusvile batted around in the 7th, putting up 4 more when Webb walked 4 out of 5 batters, only interrupted by a Yaz double. Sanchez went 7, giving up only 3 hits and zero runs. The Grease’s only run came on a double by Dickerson followed by a Garcia single in the 9th. 6 hits for EB and only 1 extra base hit. Blah.
