Now, 2 years ago, I invited Willie to ride with me on Air Force One on the way to the All-Star Game in St. Louis. It was an extraordinary trip. Very rarely when I'm on Air Force One am I the second most important guy on there. [Laughter] Everybody was just passing me by—"Can I get you something, Mr. Mays?" [Laughter] What's going on? Willie was also a 23-year-old outfielder the last time the Giants won the World Series, back when the team was in New York.

The best example is enjoying multiple airings on CSN Chicago, the first at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 27. When a one-hour documentary combines Theo Epstein and his Merry Men of Wrigley Field, who can talk as good a game as they play, with the video skills of world-class producers Sarah Lauch and Ryan McGuffey, you have a must-watch production. We all know “what” happened in the Game 7 Cubs victory of the 2016 World Series that turned from potentially the most catastrophic loss in franchise history into its most memorable triumph in just a few minutes in Cleveland. Now, thanks to the sublime re- porting and editing skills of Lauch and McGuffey, we now have the “how” and “why” through the oral history contained in “Reign Men: The Story Behind Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.” Anyone with sense is tired of the endless shots of the 35-and-under bar crowd whooping it up for top sports events. The word here is gratuitous. “Reign Men” largely eschews those images and other “color” shots in favor of telling the story. And what a tale to tell. Lauch and McGuffey, who have a combined 20 sports Emmy Awards in hand for their labors, could have simply done a rehash of what many term the greatest Game 7 in World Series history.

Miles NBER Working Paper No. 17023 May 2011 JEL No. K23,K42 ABSTRACT In determining the legality of online poker – a multibillion dollar industry – courts have relied heavily on the issue of whether or not poker is a game of skill. Using newly available data, we analyze that question by examining the performance in the 2010 World Series of Poker of a group of poker players identified as being highly skilled prior to the start of the events. Those players identified a priori as being highly skilled achieved an average return on investment of over 30 percent, compared to a -15 percent for all other players.

Let us leave our close rooms …the game of ball is glorious.” Walt Whitman ersonally for me, summertime in Alaska evokes Africa, North, Central and South America, Asia, the Pacific memories of hiking trails lined with fireweed, Islands, and Australia. Indeed, as Burns put it, “the story of passing salmon-choked streams, and yes, playing the Game is the story of America.” baseball. I met my husband playing softball on the parkP strip, and for Mother’s Day this year we took our boys, Ben and Tom, to watch the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. Although at age 40 “the Kid” was only batting a buck-eighty-four, we wanted the boys to be able to tell their kids that they once saw Ken Griffey Jr.—one of the Game’s greats—swing the bat during what is likely his last season. Put simply, we wanted to give our boys a lasting memory. It’s hard for a historian not to love baseball, for our national pastime is steeped in tradition. In his PBS documentary Baseball, Ken Burns showed us that baseball not only commemorates history, but has also shaped it. As the Game’s popularity soared around the turn of the twentieth century, the shared act of being a spectator of the sport helped teach newly-arrived immigrants how to be Americans.
