ABSOLUTELY NO PETS ALLOWED ON THE COMMUNITY FIELD 2 Paul “The Barber” Tetreault Paul was known as “The Barber” in Woodsville for well over 60 years. His first shop was located in the Wentworth Hotel Building until a fire destroyed the building and he was forced to re-locate next door in the Mt. Gardner View Apartment Building. After many years at that location, a broken waterpipe and ensuing water damage caused him to re- locate once again to 83 Central Street. He loved his loyal customers who fol- lowed him from shop to shop where they found Paul ready to cut hair and always up-to-date and ready to discuss all the local happenings. Paul and his wife, Lorayne, raised 4 children in North Haverhill. Over the years, the family grew to include 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Paul served in the NH Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in September 1960. He served on the NH State Barber Board and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. When he wasn’t barbering, he could be found pitching horseshoes somewhere. Duing the summer months, on a Tuesday evening, the residents of North Haverhill could hear the familiar “clink” of the horseshoes as many of his customers and friends would gather at his home for a friendly game of Horseshoes. He travelled to the World Horseshoe Pitching Tourna- ment several times and collected many trophies over the years. He also was known to have driven his Model A in the 4th of July Parade a time or two. It is with great pleasure that the Woodsville/Wells River 4th of July Commit- tee dedicates this year’s Souvenir Booklet to the memory of Paul “The Bar- ber” Tetreault. 3 This year’s Parade Marshal is someone that almost every business person or organization leader has had the opportunity to interact with over the years. Not to say that she has not also interacted with many, many local citizens. Glenda Hofmann began her retail career at about age 12 when her parents operated the former Petco mini mart in Woodsville where Traill Farm & Home now does business. At that time Glenda would show up after school and help her parents run the convenience store. By age 16 she was doing bookwork and making daily deposits for the establishment. In later years Glenda did bookkeeping for Ted Clark who owned Clark’s Business Machines in Woodsville. That business later became Ross Business Machines with Steve Ross as owner. When Glenda decided to give up her position as manager of the Wells River Jiffy Mart she asked Steve if he needed help at his business. She started on a part time basis and later became a full-time employee. Once again that business transitioned, and in 2010 when Glenda became the owner the name changed again to Copies and More located on Main Street in Wells River. Most often the honor of Marshal in the Woodsville Wells River 4th of July parade is given to a person who has put in many years of devotion to the community through volunteer work. When asked about her volunteer work Glenda just chuckled a bit and said she simply does not have the time to be a “volunteer”. Instead, she is one of those behind the scenes persons that all these groups need. Whether it be a last- minute poster or program, the printing of raffle tickets, or even the donation of a gift certificate, Glenda will meet the request with a smile, maybe a playful gab, and then with a nod that sure, she can get it done on time. Glenda is most proud that she had instilled in her the desire to “Put my all into it” and to make sure you “keep the customer happy”. It is with many thanks for her unseen help that the Woodsville Wells River 4th of July Committee names Glenda Hofmann as the 2021 Parade Marshal. 4 For 2021 the Woodsville Wells River 4th of July Committee has elected Dale Pierson as the Grand Marshall for the parade. Even though Dale was born in Woodsville he considers himself as being a Wells River native. Dale is a 1969 graduate of Woodsville High School. Not long after graduation Dale became a member of the US Army and served from 1970 until his discharge in 1973. During 1971 and 1972 Dale served in Viet Nam as a member of the 67th Medical Group. In that position he served in a number of M.A.S.H. units, tent hospitals and other aid stations. in several different areas of the country including close to the DMZ (De-Militarized Zone) Dale recalls that during one of those stops he even ran into one of his fellow recruits that he had met in boot camp at Ft. Devens. Once Dale came home, he started work at some local automotive service stations. He worked at Dud’s in Woodsville as well as Fadden’s in North Haverhill. Dale then got a job as a Woodsville Elementary School custodian. From there Dale was able to move up to working for the United States Postal Service at their distribution center in White River Junction. Dale spent 25 years at the facility first in maintenance and then moving up to a supervisory position. Dale has also been very busy with volunteer work. He joined the Haverhill Memorial VFW Post #5245in 1981. Like most new members he moved up thru the chairs serving as a vice commander before being elected as Commander, where he stayed for 2 years. He did not stop there. He also served for about 5 years as the District Commander for the VFW Dale was also the VAVS Department of New Hampshire representative for the Veterans Administration. But what has turned out to be his biggest, and longest serving position is as the Quartermaster of the post taking care of the financial needs of the organization. In fact, Dale has held this position for about 30 years and still takes care of writing checks and filling out paper work. Dale is also a member of Ross-Wood Post #20 American Legion in Woodsville where at one time he was on the Executive Committee. The Woodsville Wells River 4th of July Committee offers congratulations, and thanks, to Dale Pierson our Grand Marshal for 2021 5 6 7 The Fourth of July Committee would also like to pass on a Special thanks to these Municipalities for their foresight in contributing to this Annual Event: BATH * MONROE NEWBURY * RYEGATE WELLS RIVER * WOODSVILLE 8 OUR RED, WHITE AND BLUE SPONSORS These Businesses And Organizations Have Contributed Major Amounts Of Money Or Services And Have Our Sincere Thanks.
