Dennis Miller FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 23, 2008 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT PRESENTS DENNIS MILLER LIVE AT THE RIVER ROCK SHOW THEATRE SATURDAY, MARCH 7 It's been said that Dennis Miller is "one of the premiere comedy talents in America today." While others are blunt assessing his comedic stature, Miller himself makes a virtue of understatement but there is nothing low key about his career. His first big break came in 1985 when after being discovered by producer Lorne Michaels at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, he was signed to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” as the Weekend Update anchor where he stayed for six years. He then moved back to Los Angeles and hosted his own syndicated late night talk show “The Dennis Miller Show” in 1992 followed two years later by HBO’s “Dennis Miller Live” which had a nine- year run and earned Miller a total of five Emmy Awards. In 2000, Miller called the plays alongside Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback, Dan Fouts on ABC’s “Monday Night Football” for two seasons. Then in 2004, he hosted and executive produced “Dennis Miller” – a topical interview talk show which aired on CNBC. And just last year, he signed a deal with the US radio network, Westwood One to launch his own national three-hour talk radio program which made its debut in March, 2007. The show which has Miller engaging in serious discussions of American culture, current events, politics and their place in the global context continues to grow in popularity. According to Talkers Magazine, as of spring 2008, “The Dennis Miller Show” had approximately 1,500,000 listeners. Miller has written four “rant” books: The Rants (1996), Ranting Again (1999), I Rant, Therefore I Am (2000) and The Rant Zone (2001). Published by HarperCollins, the books have all been New York Times bestsellers. He has been cast in several films in both comedic and non-comedic roles including Disclosure (1994), The Net (1995), Murder at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (1997), Joe Dirt (2001) and What Happens in Vegas (2008). Miller also hosted the prime time game show, “Amne$ia” which aired on NBC earlier this year. He and his wife Carolyn Epsley, a former model from Vancouver, currently reside with their two sons, Holden and Marlon in Santa Barbara, California. Dennis Miller will be returning to the River Rock Casino Resort for one show only in March, 2009. February 26, 2021 Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer, Alabama are voting to form a union with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). We are the writers of feature films and television series. All of our work is done under union contracts whether it appears on Amazon Prime, a different streaming service, or a television network. Unions protect workers with essential rights and benefits. Most importantly, a union gives employees a seat at the table to negotiate fair pay, scheduling and more workplace policies. Deadline Amazon accepts unions for entertainment workers, and we believe warehouse workers deserve the same respect in the workplace. We strongly urge all Amazon warehouse workers in Bessemer to VOTE UNION YES. • HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007
1 HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007 Submitted by Gareth Andrew James to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English, January 2011. This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. ........................................ 2 Abstract The thesis offers a revised institutional history of US cable network Home Box Office that expands on its under-examined identity as a monthly subscriber service from 1972 to 1994. This is used to better explain extensive discussions of HBO‟s rebranding from 1995 to 2007 around high-quality original content and experimentation with new media platforms. The first half of the thesis particularly expands on HBO‟s origins and early identity as part of publisher Time Inc. from 1972 to 1988, before examining how this affected the network‟s programming strategies as part of global conglomerate Time Warner from 1989 to 1994. Within this, evidence of ongoing processes for aggregating subscribers, or packaging multiple entertainment attractions around stable production cycles, are identified as defining HBO‟s promotion of general monthly value over rivals. Arguing that these specific exhibition and production strategies are glossed over in existing HBO scholarship as a result of an over-valuing of post-1995 examples of „quality‟ television, their ongoing importance to the network‟s contemporary management of its brand across media platforms is mapped over distinctions from rivals to 2007.

  • Norm Macdonald
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 21, 2008 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT PRESENTS NORM MACDONALD LIVE AT THE RIVER ROCK SHOW THEATRE SATURDAY, JANUARY 17 Perhaps best known for his offbeat delivery of “the fake news” on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for five seasons, Norm Macdonald is a major comedic presence. The Quebec City-born actor and comedian began performing in comedy clubs across Canada in the mid-80’s. He eventually moved to Los Angeles where he became a writer for “The Dennis Miller Show” and later for the ABC sitcom, “Roseanne.” It was in 1993 when Macdonald joined the cast of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" after being discovered by producer Lorne Michaels during one of his stand-up routines. Once cast on the show, he ended up doing impressions of Bob Dole, Larry King, Charles Kuralt, David Letterman and Burt Reynolds. His most notable position on SNL however was his three-year stint as anchor of Weekend Update beginning each of his newscasts with his trademark line, “And now the fake news.” After leaving SNL in 1998, he starred in his own sitcom, “The Norm Show” which ran for three seasons on ABC followed by his second sitcom, “A Minute with Stan Hooper” which aired on FOX in 2003. In addition, he has done several motion pictures including Billy Madison (1995), Milos Forman’s Academy Award- nominated The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996) and Dirty Work (1998). His voiceover work includes the role of “Lucky” in Eddie Murphy’s Doctor Dolittle films and the character of “Death” on FOX’s “Family Guy.” His sketch comedy album, Ridiculous was released by Comedy Central Records in 2006.
