May Procession and Feast of Edmund Rice I appreciate the support of parents and families for our Annual May Procession and Feast of Edmund Rice last Sunday. On what turned out to be a beautiful sunny May afternoon, the community was able to honour a tradition that stretches back 100 years and is now unique in Australia. We have been very fortunate to have a number of special guests over the last few years: the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove; the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Reverend Anthony Fisher; the Executive Director of Edmund Rice Education Australia, Dr Wayne Tinsey; and this year, Brother Robert Wallace AM, former Head of Waverley College celebrating his fiftieth Jubilee as a Christian Brother. As always it is greatly appreciated and goes a long way in making the afternoon enjoyable for those who attend. We hope you had the opportunity to meet new acquaintances or catch up with those you may not see regularly. Term 2 Meeting Postponed We will not be holding our Term 2 meeting on Wednesday 11th May. Over the last few months we have met with Mr Paxton to discuss ongoing plans for the Mothers’ Club. These discussions resulted in a meeting with members of the P&F Executive, Greg Bodkin, Michael Jaeger, Mr Paxton and ourselves to plan an approach that would amalgamate the Mothers’ Club and P&F roles and functions into one entity. It’s great to see the large numbers of teams who have prepared well and who are ready to compete this weekend. We have spoken extensively to the boys about maintaining the highest levels of behavior when representing the College, namely with our interactions with match officials, opposition players and spectators. The ‘Binning the Cards’ theme has been a mantra of the pre-season. The CAS season also provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the performances of our classmates as supporters. The College Choir, Brass Ensemble and Solo Instrumentalists Congratulations to The College Choir under the direction of Anne Fahy on their performance at the May Procession. They were ably supported by the brass ensemble lead by Mr. Dan Williams and instrumentalists, Thomas Jaeger, guitar, and Luca Galeazzi, bass guitar. Meet the Music Concert 2 of the Meet the Music Series was held at the Sydney Opera House last Wednesday night. Entitled Leningrad Symphony, it featured two works by Russian composers, Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and Shostakovich’s Symphony No.7, subtitled The Leningrad, in addition to the world premiere of a new work for cello and orchestra by the Sydney composer, Paul Stanhope. The concert was conducted by Oleg Caetani and featured cello soloist, Narek Hakhnazaryan. Enjoy the boy’s concert experience! New Concussion Guidelines Please also note that for Rugby the ARU now have specific concussion guidelines. These include a minimum of 2 weeks rest and medical clearance before playing. This would also apply to any concussion sustained outside of school sport and we have a Duty of Care to know when this occurs.

Read all about it!” On 2 May 2016 the Year 9 Photography and Digital Media students visited both the Museum of Contemporary Art and Cockatoo Island to experience exciting international artists artworks at the Biennale of Sydney. The day was sunny and perfect for a ferry trip to the island. Students took the opportunity to see and discuss artworks as well as document artists works and the natural beauty of cockatoo Island via photography. At the MCA students participated in workshops and discussions about specific artworks and created drawings based on early childhood memories which is part of the exhibitions themes.
