Major Events showcasing art and culture from artistes of India in France in 2011. Indian art and culture is being highlighted in France this year between February and December through several major events organized by French institutions. 1. "Living legends of Indian Contemporary Art" Four documentary films, directed by Laurent Brégeat, on four founding artists, among others, of Indian contemporary art: M.F. Husain, Ram Kumar, Akbar Padamsee, S.H. Raza. A Lalit Kala Akademi production of Arts (National Akademi of Arts, New Delhi). Laurent Brégeat reveals the history of the artists' beginnings, their challenges and landmarks, and highlights their lives, referring friends and events, thoughts and anecdotes, lessons and influences. Underpinned by interviews with art critics, collectors and artists, supported by unpublished documents, these films - drawing together the historical and sociological context of these great Indian artists of the post-independence era and showing the journey of a hinge generation - are essential for the history of Indian and international art. These films are part of the international symposium of the Research Centre on the Far East of Paris-Sorbonne (CREOP) Heritage of India: research perspectives. This first series will be followed in 2011 by another set, covering a broad cultural project: the Archive of Contemporary Indian Art. 2. Indian Highway IV February 24 to July 31 at the Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon After London, Oslo, Herning, Indian Highway moves to Lyon and takes on new dimensions: 2000m2, 31 artists, monumental works, site specific installations, a special focus on Studio Mumbai Architects (Special Jury of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2010). ARTPARIS Fair 2011: JUST ART! March 31-April 3 Platform India presents for the first time in France, the historical figures of contemporary art and tribal art from India. This set brings together major works by contemporary artists such as Subodh Gupta, Kher Barti, Ravinder Reddy, Anju Dodiya, Atul Dodiya, Mithu Sen, Thukral & Tagra, Anita Dube, Pushpamala N., Bari Kumar 5. Guimet Museum "A royal court in India: Lucknow (XVIII - XIX century)" : a season of India, April 6 to July 11, 2011 The first major international retrospective dedicated to the cosmopolitan culture of the royal court of Lucknow, the exhibition presents nearly 200 works from the most prestigious institutions worldwide (presented in Los Angeles under the title "India's Fabled City: the Art of Courtly Lucknow). Monumenta 2011: Anish Kapoor - Grand Palais, May 11-June 23, 2011 After Anselm Kiefer, Richard Serra and Christian Boltanski, the 4th edition of Monumenta in the Grand Palais invites the Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor. 8. Cannes Film Festival - 11th - 23rd May 2011 Indian cinema will have a special presence at the 64th Cannes Film Festival with the presentation of two Indian feature films in the Official Selection and at the Directors' Fortnight. The film, "Bollywood, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told" by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Jeff Zimbalist will be presented in the Official Selection Out of Competition on the14th of May at the Palais des Festivals while the Indo-French film "Chatrak" directed by Vimukthi Jayasundra will be presented as part of the Directors' Fortnight. Another important aspect is the selection of the Indian filmmaker Gitanjali Rao to the Pavillon Les Cinémas du Monde as well as her participation in the short films Jury of the Critics' Week. A conference on the new film co-production agreement between France and India will be held on the 15th of May at the Indian Pavilion in cooperation with the CNC. There are nearly a hundred professionals, journalists and Indian talents attending this year's Cannes Film Festival. 9. Paris-Delhi-Bombay ... India as seen by Indian and French artists - May 25 to September 19, 2011 Opening 22 nd of May The Centre Pompidou Paris-Delhi-Mumbai ..., presents a major exhibition to discover the contemporary Indian society through the works of Indian and French visual artists. Festival de l’O - Val de Marne 18 and June 19, 2011 On the occasion of the invitation to the Ganges River - many Indian artists are going to invest and transform the banks of La Marne river during the festival. (Isabelle Anna, Anuj Mishra, and Arjun, Sudha (Nepal), Das Gupta Sumjit, Latif Khan, The Jaipur Kawa Jazz Band). 12. Festival Etonnants Voyageurs: Grand Thème – World Literature is Indian – June 11 to 13, 2011 Writer Bulbul Sharma with her new book Now That I Am Fifty and Eating Women Telling Tale , Chitrita Banerjee's books on haute cuisine, Canadian-Indian writer Jaspreet Singh’s book Chef, Radhika Jha’s Lantern on Their Horns , Mimlu Sen’s Book Baulsphere, Tishani Doshi's Pleasure Seekers , Baul Songs performance by Paban Das Baul and Vijay Singh’s film India Song along with his new book Aruna Adiceam / Déborah Benattar .
