Our Trainers

Linda De Matteo I started my career as a member of the North Staffordshire Pony Club representing the branch at area level in all disciplines. Now an international event rider I have competed to advanced/2* level. I am a fully qualified, insured and registered British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI) and British Accredited Coach as well as having a BSc(Hons) and Certificate in Education (OFSTED outstanding lecturer). I am also a PC examiner as well as a BE Jump training and BE80(T) coach. With vast experience at all levels, I am passionate about training and with a fun yet positive approach, aim to improve skill and confidence levels in both the horse and rider. Sarah Weaver I was lucky enough to have ponies when I was younger and decided at an early age I wanted to work with horses and teach. At 16 I left home and became a live in student at Tong riding centre. I qualified in 18 months and stayed on as a junior instructor for 12 months after qualifying. In 2000, I started to manage a riding school and student training centre, then started to work as a freelance instruc- tor teaching for North Shropshire Pony Club / Prescott and Kingswood riding schools and doing schooling for local clients. In 2005 I took on more work riding hunters and working a livery yard. This became more enjoyable to me so I took a job with Mike Slater full time running his business and grooming for his 3 hunters. I decided to go it alone and now 6 years on weaver equestrian is booming; 24 liveries, a riding school providing BHS exam training and NVQ’s from lo- cal schools, a centre membership pony club and now a registered charity for the RDA. My passion is training I've taken teams to area competitions and students right up to there BHSAI. I love working with young children and seeing them grow in confidence and watching them achieve the goals. I don't have much time for myself but I love producing young horses at home and I hunt with north staffs when I get the chance and I like competing but low key! Helen Elston I spent an idyllic childhood owning and riding ponies and was a member of North Staffs PC. from age 8 to 21 . During this time I achieved my AH and also decided that horses were to be my career path. I am qualified as BHS AI,INT SM and I am also a B test examiner. I get a lot of pleasure training people who compete but I get an equal buzz when I can help a nervous child or adult take the next step. Teaching riding is a great job and I wouldn’t want to do any- thing else. Jenny Plant I joined the North Staffs Pony Club aged 11 and was a very active member representing them on numerous occasions at area competitions in all disciplines. Show Jumping and Eventing soon proved to be my real passion which During ,my 3 years at Aberyswyth University (where I spent far more time on the equine campus and with horses than I ever did in the library) I continued to event my horses and to do all my Pony Club teaching qualifications. On finishing my degree and deciding that a job in accounts was definitely not for me I moved down to Shropshire where I was offered a fantastic job as a competition rider. Here I had a large string of horses competing form 4yr olds to the more advanced, Show Jumping up to 1.40 classes and Eventing up to Advanced/3* level. Five years ago I moved back to Staffordshire to set up my own yard and to give me more time not only to event my own horses but to coach/ teach young children as well. Since then I have been a regular instructor for the North Staffordshire pony club as well as working for several different riding schools. I love to help children progress and train their horses and improve in confidence as I have. Jo Titterton Horses have been my life for over 25 years. I have competed in all disciplines, however my passion is dressage and in recent years I have been fortunate enough to train with some of the country’s top international judges and trainers, from which I am able to share my learning with my pupils. I run my own competition and livery yard in Draycott, where we have a string of dressage and event horses and re-train racehorses. I am currently competing at Advanced Medium level with my top horse Vision B, and we are training towards Prix St Georges. I brought Billy as a just backed 3 year old and together we have achieved huge successes, including, area festival finalists, numerous times regional finalists, regional champions, national finalists. I thrive on sharing my experiences with my pupils of all ages and abilities and love nothing more than seeing them progress. I not only have the equestrian qualifications, but am also a fully qualified lecturer in further and higher education. I am a British Dressage listed trainer and a trainee British . My training achievements include area festival finalists, regional finalists, national finalists and national champions, as well as winners in British Eventing. I have a fun and creative approach to training, combining the scales of training with horse and rider alignment tech- niques to help achieve perfect harmony between the horse and rider. Summary of Insurance Cover Members of The Pony Club are covered by Third Party Personal Liability Insurance up to £30 million. This cov- er exists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Members are insured for legal liability for any accidental bodily injury or property damage caused to a third party arising out of the use or keeping of their own or a borrowed or hired horse or pony, provided that the horse or pony is primarily for the use of the Member. The cover extends to anyone riding a Members' horse or pony with the Member's (or parent's) permission, if they have no cover elsewhere. (The Pony Club's existing Liability Insurance Policy runs until June 30, 2015. It is the firm intention of The Pony Club to renew the Policy, subject to acceptable terms being offered by the un- derwriters). It is important also to outline the main things the insurance does not cover, which are: -

❏ Injury to, or damage to the property of, anyone in the Member’s family, household, or employment.

❏ Property in the care, custody, or control of the Member (e.g. a borrowed pony trailer, or a horse transported for a friend).

❏ Racing under Turf Authority Rules (except for the UK Pony Racing Series), Point to Point, Steeplechasing, Team Chasing or any other form of racing.

❏ Accidents to the Member.

❏ Business activities, or use for hire or reward.

The above summary is subject to all the Terms, Exceptions, and Conditions of the Policy, of which a full Policy Summary is available from Pony Club Headquarters or from our website www.pcuk.org, click on “For Parents”. The £30 million Liability Insurance cover provided to Pony Club Members represents outstanding value. If a child were to be knocked down by a horse, and suffered permanent injury, the compensation awarded by the courts could exceed £10 million. Since the typical Household Insurance Policy has a maximum Public Liability limit of £2 million, with cover more specifically designed for small domestic animals, and the policy conditions being much more restrictive than under the Pony Club Policy, the owner of the horse could well be facing per- sonal bankruptcy if they rely on a Household Policy for their liability insurance. If an incident occurs which could give rise to a claim by a third party, it is absolutely essential for details to be reported immediately to The Pony Club’s insurance brokers, even if you believe that it will not result in a claim. If such a matter is reported late, Underwriters may refuse to provide indemnity. Do not admit liability or make any offer or promise of payment, as this could invalidate the insurance. Any correspondence received from the third party or a solicitor should be sent to the brokers unanswered. They will deal with the matter on your behalf. Contact details for The Pony Club’s insurance brokers are shown below The Pony Club’s insurance brokers are: - The Equestrian Insurance Division of Windsor Partners Ltd., 71, Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 4BS. Tel: 0207 133 1200. Fax: 0207 133 1500. Should you have any queries or correspondence relating to an incident that happened prior to July 1, 2007, then you should contact: - THB British Equestrian, 107, Leadenhall Street, London, EC3A 4AF.
