Baptism class is held the third Thursday of each month at 6:00pm. This can be done at least seven (7) months before the birth in order to make proper sacramental preparations. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Diocesan policy requires a minimum of six (6) months of sacramental preparations for marriage. Engaged couples are invited to call the Pastor for an appointment. Indeed, haven’t we all MONDAY 1 Kgs 17:1-6 gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . impatient . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for 8 Ps 121:1bc-8 all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have Mt 5:1-12 to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows TUESDAY 1 Kgs 17:7-16 down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s 9 Ps 4:2-5, 7b-8 favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully Mt 5:13-16 invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. What Is Trinity Sunday All About? Here’s everything you need to know about Trinity Sunday: What we celebrate: The Church’s official recognition of the Trinity as the three “persons” of the one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Rhoades “It was 161 years ago today, on February 11, 1858, that the Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared to the 14-year old Bernadette Soubirous at the grotto of Massabielle near the village of Lourdes in France. It was the first of 18 apparitions. At this first apparition, Bernadette first saw a light, then she saw a young lady who she said was “beautiful, more beautiful than any other.” She did not know it was the Virgin Mary. Bernadette said that the lady smiled at her and spoke to her with much tenderness and love. She described the woman to others as ‘the beautiful lady.’ She was beautiful in every way, not just physically. It is hardly surprising that Mary should be beautiful, given that – during the last apparition on March 25th, 1858, she revealed her name to Bernadette. She said: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Is this not the greatest beauty of Mary of Nazareth, the Mother of Jesus? She was without sin from the first moment of her existence. She was preserved by God from every stain of original sin. We call her Mary most holy. Her holiness was perfect. That’s why she’s the greatest of all the saints, the Queen of All Saints. That’s the patron title I gave to Bishop Dwenger High School some years ago, when I gave to your high school Our Lady of Lourdes as patroness. The young Bernadette saw the beauty of Mary.

    Carmelite echoes in the Lourdes Grotto Johan Bergström-Allen, T.O.C. Johan is a Lay Carmelite and convenor of Carmelite Spirituality Groups in the northern English cities of Leeds and York where he runs the Projects and Publications Office of the British Province of Carmelites. As well as being involved in the Third Order formation programme of his province, Johan is a formator for volunteers working in Lourdes. He is the director of the British Province’s annual pilgrimage to Lourdes with the Catholic Association. For details of the pilgrimage please visit www.carmelite.org. When the editor of Carmel in the World asked me to write an article about the link between Carmelite spirituality and Lourdes, the famous shrine of Our Lady in south-western France, I was very happy to do so because it’s a tremendously important place in my life. I’ve been lucky enough to have gone there on pilgrimage many times, including several visits in the Jubilee Year th of 2008 which marks the 150 anniversary of Mary’s apparitions to Saint Bernadette Soubirous.     STORY AND PHOTOS BY BY HERMINE LEES SISTER NANCY MUNRO, CSJ STAFF WRITER THE FACES OF GOD: OUR LADY OF LOURDES CHURCH teachers, returning for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Two signers interpreted for the hearing impaired and before the final blessing, wedding anniversary couples for the month were called to the sanctuary where they were congratulated and blessed by the assembly. After Mass many parishioners stayed for coffee and donuts in the parish hall. “It’s all good here,” says OLL School principal Patricia Hager. “It is so welcoming. The Catholicity, the identity — it is here. No matter what, whenever you come here, there is always something going on in the parish. And the priests support the school 100 percent. I am proud the children write letters to those in RCIA. I am proud that the children participate in ‘Locks of Love’ and they donate their hair for St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer. I am so proud of what these children do here, and all grades participate.” Parishioners also are conscious that they can never become complacent. Members of the Parish Council often ask themselves, “Is there anything we still need to do to be more hospitable?” Welcome packets are given to those new to the parish. On the second Sunday of the month anniversary couples are recognized with a blessing and a red rose. Every ministry group within the parish takes its turn hosting a Donut Sunday. The renovated Our Lady of Lourdes Church was rededicated in 1995 after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. “The people try to make hospitality real here,” says Father Loftus, whose welcoming blanket is tangible proof.
