At the Entomological Society of America (ESA) meeting in New Orleans in 1975, the Governing Board approved the proposal by the Special Committee for Insecticide ond Acaricide Tests. Volume 1 (166 reports) was the culmination of this charge. At the ESA meeting in Hawaii in 1976, the Governing Board further endorsed the Special Committee ond Insecticide and Acaricide Tests. ESA publication policies ond instructions for contributions include this statement: "Data previously reported in Insecticide and Acaricide Tests will not be considered as constituting prior publication and manuscripts which incorporate and extend such data are appropriate for submission to ESA journals." Volume 2 (196 reports). Volume 3 (276 reports) and Volume 4 (347 reports) have resulted and are representative of what should be an annual endeavor. The format is forthright, concise and parallels and Tests. A metric table of conversions (reproduced from F & N Tests) is included for convenient reference. The special reports on Insect Colonies: White Rats or White Elephants and The Need for Innovative Research in Fruit Production are informative and relevant, and enhance the purpose and objectives of Insecticide and Acaricide Tests.

The purpose of Insecticide and Acaricide Tests is to solve the basic need for an annual publication dealing with insecticide screening/fey entomologists in the United States and other countries. This publication should serve the vital need for dissemination of annual research., reports (in part), data on minor crop use, and progress on candidate . The success of this self-supporting endeavor depends upon proper testing, careful preparation and timely submission of reports by entomologists, and on the voluntary work of members of the editorial board and interested colleagues. The objectives of this publication are: 1. promote rapid dissemination of information 2. improve insecticide and acaricide testing and reporting, and 3. provide a suitable publication for assembling lftforfliattw._eft the performance of materials for insect and mite control. For maximum usefulness, I & A Tests should be available by early April each year...

ESA headquarters in College Park, Maryland, have assumed major responsibility for advertisement, standing orders, etc. The suggestions and cooperative support of Dr. Charles W. Averre (Editor of Fungicide and Nematicide Tests) in the preparation of Volume 4 ts appreciated and acknowledged. The assistance of Mr. Mike Thompson in the handling of reports is acknowledged. The typing and final copy was done by Mrs. Sherlene Beute, Mrs. Joyce Sorensen, Mrs. Kathy Williams (Raleigh, NC); Mrs. Loma Rife (Clemson, SC) and Mrs. Jo-Nell Coker (Walnut Creek, CA). Special appreciation is extended to Mr. Kenneth Levi, Printer, of Blue Ridge Press (Berryville, VA).
