Biography and Works Peter Lieberson “Like all of Lieberson's music, it is acutely, actively heard and written along every line, without padding. The composer handles his orchestra with imag- ination and with new, fertile invention; the string writing and the episodes for small, unusual ensembles are especially striking.” G. The Boston Symphony Orchestra Seiji Ozawa, Music Director & Conductor Peter Serkin, Piano
PETER LIEBERSON New World Records 80325 Piano Concerto The Boston Symphony Orchestra Seiji Ozawa, music director & conductor Peter Serkin, piano Peter Lieberson was born in New York City on October 25, 1946; he lives in Newton Center, Massachusetts, and is currently teaching at Harvard. His Piano Concerto is one of twelve works commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra for its centennial in 1981. From the beginning the piano solo part was intended for Peter Serkin, who gave the first performance with Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra on April 21, 1983, in Symphony Hall, Boston. The youngest of the 12 composers commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra for its centennial, Peter Lieberson grew up in a family where music was ubiquitous. Both his parents were important figures in the artistic world. His father, Goddard Lieberson, himself a trained composer, was perhaps best known as the most influential record-company executive in the artistic world. Peter's mother, under the stage name Vera Zorina, was a ballerina with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and later with George Balanchine, before she became known as a specialist in spoken narration. Through a job at New York's classical music radio station WNCN, Lieberson came to know Aaron Copland and Virgil Thomson. But the crucial connection came when Copland invited Milton Babbitt to do a program. Until that time the major influence on Lieberson's music was Stravinsky. Now he began to study informally with Babbitt. At Babbitt's suggestion Lieberson chose Columbia when he decided to pursue graduate studies; there he worked with Charles Wuorinen (the third of his three principal teachers would be Donald Martino, with whom he studied at Brandeis University). -

Music in Concert with the Landscape There are music festivals and there are music festivals. Then there is the Moab Music Festival – a mélange of musical programming set in one of the most splendid landscapes on earth. Old and new music – chamber music, vocal music, jazz, traditional music – performed by outstanding musicians in a setting of form, color, and light that creates an unmatched artistic experience… Music in Concert with the Landscape. The Festival Founded in 1992 by Michael Barrett and Leslie Tomkins, prominent musicians based in New York, the Festival gathers world-class instrumentalists and vocalists annually to celebrate vibrant music in an awe-inspiring landscape. An ever- expanding audience comes from all parts of the United States and from Europe to enjoy this unique combination of sight and sound. Composers range from Bach to Bernstein, from Ravel to Rorem, from Dvorák to Danielpour. One performance may feature a vocalist celebrating a French chanteuse; the next a chamber ensemble performing Brahms; then a jazz ensemble playing with a Latin flair; then an exploration of contemporary music by the season’s Composer-in-Residence, who will be present to discuss his or her work. For patrons, the three weekend fall festival – which in 2003 won ASCAP’s coveted award for “Adventurous Programming” in the music festival category – is a potpourri of musical offerings performed by dynamic, highly accomplished musicians. In June, the Festival offers a four day “Musical Adventure” benefit raft trip with performances held at scenic sites along the Colorado River. Many concerts take advantage of the remarkable environment and are set outdoors in unique settings – under a pavilion along the Colorado River, in a tent under towering rock monoliths, in a park sheltered by the shade of an ancient cottonwood. -

Federal Communications Commission DA 01-968 Before the Federal Communications Commission Washington, D.C. 20554 In the Matter of ) ) Amendment of Section 73.202(b), ) Table of Allotments, ) MM Docket No. 00-134 FM Broadcast Stations. ) RM-9922 (Brighton and Stowe, Vermont) ) RM-10023 ) REPORT AND ORDER (Proceeding Terminated) Adopted: April 11, 2001 Released: April 20, 2001 Before the Chief, Allocations Branch: 1. The Allocations Branch has before it the Notice of Proposed Rule Making in this proceeding. 15 FCC Rcd 13978 (2000). Linda A. Davidson filed Comments. Radio Vermont Classics, L.L.C. (“Radio Vermont”) filed a Counterproposal. For the reasons discussed below, we are allotting Channel 295A to Brighton, Vermont. Background 2. At the request of Linda Davidson, the Notice proposed the allotment of Channel 270A to Brighton, Vermont, as a first local service. In response to the Notice, Radio Vermont, licensee of Station WCVT, Channel 269A, Stowe, Vermont, filed a Counterproposal proposing the substitution of Channel 269C3 for Channel 269A at Stowe, and modification of its Station WCVT license to specify operation on Channel 269C3. In regard to a proposed allotment at Brighton, Radio Vermont sugests an alternate channel. 3. We believe that the public interest would be served by allotting alternate Channel 295A to Brighton as a first local service.1 On the other hand, we deny the proposed Class C3 upgrade at Stowe in the context of this proceeding. In order to comply with the minimum separation requirements set forth in Section 73.207 of the Rules, this allotment would require a site restriction of 25.3 kilometers (15.7 miles) northeast of Stowe. -
320+ Halloween Songs and Albums
320+ Halloween Songs and Albums Over 320 Songs for Halloween Theme Rides in Your Indoor Cycling Classes Compiled by Jennifer Sage, updated October 2014 Halloween presents a unique opportunity for some really fun musically themed classes—the variety is only limited by your imagination. Songs can include spooky, dark, or classic-but-cheesy Halloween tunes (such as Monster Mash). Or you can imagine the wide variety of costumes and use those themes. I’ve included a few common themes such as Sci-Fi and Spy Thriller in my list. Over the years I’ve gotten many of these song suggestions from various online forums, other instructors, and by simply searching online music sources for “Halloween”, “James Bond”, “Witch”, “Ghost” and other key words. This is my most comprehensive list to date. If you have more song ideas, please email them to me so I can continually update this list for future versions. [email protected]. This year’s playlist contains 50 new specific song suggestions and numerous new album suggestions. I’ve included a lot more from the “darkwave” and “gothic” genres. I’ve added “Sugar/Candy” as its own theme. Sources: It’s impossible to list multiple sources for every song but to speed the process up for you, we list at least one source so you don’t spend hours searching for these songs. As with music itself, you have your own preference for downloading sources, so you may want to check there first. Also, some countries may not have the same music available due to music rights. -
