NORMA TANEGA’s “lost” 1971 album – Exclusively on LTD!

NORMA TANEGA’s “lost” 1971 album – Exclusively on LTD!

We are honoured and excited to announce that NORMA TANEGA has kindly agreed to let us sell her rare 1971 album “I Don’t Think It Will Hurt If You Smile”. The CD is an exclusive, limited edition on the occasion of the album’s 40th anniversary, and is available only through LTD. Annie J. Randall, Professor Musicology and author of “Dusty – Queen of the Postmods”, says the following about the album:

“It will intrigue and delight not only Dusty Springfield fans but fans of late-60s music in general. Tanega’s musical personality is fully on display here.

As a Dusty fan, I hear many references to Norma's relationship with Dusty on this album. It stands to reason that Dusty would be the object of affection in the love songs.”

Annie J. Randall’s insightful liner notes provide a fuller picture of the album and its time.

Norma’s original version of “No Stranger Am I” is included as a bonus track.

The CD has a “vinyl” look for the right retro feeling. It comes in a jewel case with a 4 page booklet. The price is GBP 12 or USD 18 which includes p&p to anywhere in the world.

To order, please email [email protected] with quantity and full address.

Payment can be made by Paypal to [email protected], by UK cheque to Rob or US check to Nancy (allherfaces). Please contact me or them for address details.

All proceeds to Norma Tanega. An interview with Norma Tanega is coming soon on our website. Unfortunately, our webmaster has a family emergency, and updating the LTD website is probably the last thing on his mind right now. Please keep Will and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

I have watched Norma Tanega give some interviews on a couple of the Dusty DVD's that have been released and she seems such a down-to-earh, dignified and caring lady. Have often wondered how different the story may have been for Dusty had Norma and she stayed together.

This will be a wonderful addition to any library, but even more so for Dusty fans. A big thank you to everyone involved in getting this to happen, great work and much appreciated by all, I'm sure.

Will, we're all hoping that everything goes well for you and your family.

I have recently received Normas CD and I really love it! The tunes are very poetic and also very contemplating.. . There are also a couple of intrumental tunes on the record. The harmonies she uses are very interesting and some of the songs have very difficult tempo changes.. Some songs(instrumental) are even written in 5/4 time... and that is a difficult tempo..

When I hear Normas voice here I can feel some similarities to Dusty's voice when she is singing some of Normas songs... Do you think I'm wrong here? Thank You Norma that we can be able to listen to this! and of course thanks to Corinna for making this possible! "I can't get you out of my heart" - Since I Fell For You

I got my CD yesterday and I can just agree with the comments above. My favorites after three entire listings are: 1) What More In This World Could Anyone Be Living For: I prefer version 2. Do I hear a Moog bass in this version? When I listen to version 1 I can find a few similarities with the Kinks "Days", maybe it's just my imagination. 2) Antarctic Rose: Love the lyrics and the acustic , amazing rhythm and chord changes 3) Illusion: Just a great song; it would have fitted to Dusty too

This album should have get more attention when it came out 40 years ago. I also like Norma's voice, I hear some great double trackings. However I think that another singer like Dusty as well as a more sophisticatic production could have put these album on a higher level. Nevertheless I like this album as released, it has the charm of the late 60's / early 70's. Don't let me lose this dream ...

This must be one of LTD's best achievements so far - to have brought together just the right people to successfully bring back to us a precious rare album by someone as special as Norma Tanega. In all honesty I made my order on blind faith, and curiousity. All I know of NT is Walkin' My Cat Named Dog, and you probably know I'm not a big fan of novelty songs. But the sample from Cor was kinda' tastey, and I always appreciate a talented artist who never strived to be the big-time headliner. Can't wait to get my copy. It should make for pleasent listening on my morning commute. " The man with the child in his eyes ".... Jeffery

Thanks Cor. I'm taking my kitty to another doctor to see if there's anything I can do. She's got the same cancer my brother had. Thankfully, my bro is doing ok. I'll get that payment in the mail this week.

Jeffery, I know what you mean about novelty songs, but Norma's first album is very good. I sometimes describe music in terms of the seasons; albums with songs in minor keys or wistful themes remind me of autumn. Norma's album is what I call a summer record. There's a bright and happy feel to most of it. Love her chord changes and unusual lyrics. It does not sound like a run of the mill folk album as some from that era do. There is some really pretty music on it. I don't know if anyone here is a fan of the band Nirvana, but I found something curious while listening to Norma. Many years ago Nirvana was on MTV unplugged and did, in my opinion, a chilling acoustic version of the Leadbelly song “Where Did You Sleep Last Night.” There is a song on Norma’s first LP called “Hey Girl” and it’s the same song. It’s played as a slow blues with nice acoustic guitar a harmonica and sounds VERY much like the Nirvana arrangement of the song. I know Kurt Cobain’s family was supposed to have played lots of different music for Kurt when he was a kid. I wonder if he might have heard Norma’s record? Just a thought. Here’s a useless piece of trivia. The guy that plays harmonica on Norma’s album also played harp on Laura Nyro’s version of her song “Wedding Bell Blues.” st louis blues I'll try anything

I have Norma's first album, and I really like it, too. I never thought of the Nirvana/Leadbelly/Hey Girl similarity - must check it out! Cor xx

by jeffery » Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:16 pm My N.T. CD came in the mail today via the meat grinder ! Usually they are pretty kind to my mail, but this time they mashed it up real good. The case was broken to pieces. Didn't hurt Norma any. I had a spare case to put her in. " The man with the child in his eyes ".... Jeffery

by mnmcv1 » Tue Jun 28, 2011 3:49 am the album is like...WHOA. Dreamy, pensive, thoughtful. At times it's fun and a little goofy ("Cowfold"). At other times heartbreaking. Sometimes it's a little of both ("Antarctic Blues", which i love). It's warm and comfortable. it's been in my car and in the house, and i'm still not through it. It's been slowly marinating. I haven't made it to the end. It doesn't help that i keep going back to "Illusion".

Listening to "Nothing Much is Happening Today". thanks again, Cor (and Annie, and of course, to Norma). It's a beautiful new friend. -markus

It definitely has a 60's/70's flavor. Kinda reminds me of Dusty meets Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. " The man with the child in his eyes ".... Jeffery

Hi Tommy, here's a snippet from "Nothing much is happening today", which was a single at the time.

Like it? Cor xx

Very much. Her earlier material didn't really impress me-not that I disliked it, it just got a "yeah, she's ok, I guess" from me-but I think I'm going to have to get this album.

by mnmcv1 » Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:48 pm then i need to put it back in the car! its soothing and to me, quite thoughtful. I know some could say a lyric here or there is too abstract, but its so obvious care went into the thoughts, and the images they conjur up. I love it. I know Norma's place in music history is somewhat limited; she can be proud that this album managed to survive, and is finding new life and appreciation. i was watching a vinyl copy on ebay that just sold for nearly $36 (over 22 GBP). -markus

I'd be interested, though my employment situation is always precarious enough that my music purchases are rarer than I'd like. And 9 times out of 10, they result in me thinking "Of all the music I could have bought, why that?"
