2021 Summer Season How to use this VIRTUAL program book! Here’s how it works: This program book can be viewed on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, and it has all of the information you need about this summer at BVT! It’s also interactive! That means that there are all sorts of things to click on and learn more about! If you see an advertisement or a logo like this one- Go ahead and give it a click! It’ll take you right to that business’s website or social media page. So you can support those who support BVT! And if you see some blue underlined text, like this right here, that’s a click-able link as well! These links can take you to artists’s websites, local businesses, more BVT content, and all kinds of good stuff. And new things will be added all season long as new shows come to the BVT stage! So scroll through and explore… and enjoy the show! Message from the Artistic Director, Karin Bowersock Places, please. At start time of a theatrical performance, the stage manager gives the places call. “Places, please for the top of the show.” It lets actors and run crew know, it's showtime! It's been a bit of a while since we heard the places call at BVT. I don't need to tell you why. And I can't possibly capture in words how it felt to spend a year without you, with only that tentative—and much less satisfying—virtual connection (Ugh, if I never see another zoom room.....). What I can tell you is how good it feels to be back creating theater in this community. And to thank you. It has been your support--our audience (to whom this season is dedicated), our neighbors, our corporate sponsors, our donors, the village and town of Naples, the New York State Council on the Arts, Humanities NY, the Federal CARES Act, the Small Business Administration, Canandaigua National Bank/Paycheck Protection Program, The RiMoRa Foundation, The Max and Marian Farash Message from the Artistic Director, Karin Bowersock Foundation, The Sands Family Foundation, and so many others that has enabled us to survive and to thrive. With the help of a brilliant team of designers, our stage carpenters, company of artists and technicians, board of directors, volunteers, and staff, we have re-imagined BVT, created this beautiful outdoor space, and spent hours and days and months crafting a safe way to bring you the quality of theater you've come to expect from BVT. Without this outstanding team, we would be standing in an empty parking lot, hoping that next year will be better. The past year (or so) has taught us all valuable lessons about how coming together-- be it to fight a global pandemic, to confront tough issues like social justice for all, or to build a theater in the parking lot-- gives us the strength to accomplish more than we could do as individuals. Our success is achieved through the efforts of the many working as one toward a common goal. We've sub-titled this season “Seven Americans.” We hope you will see in the stories of just seven people, what theater at its best illuminates for us: that if we look to what we have in common, what unites us, we can see past the differences that seem to separate us. We all have struggled through the Message from the Artistic Director, Karin Bowersock airport security line, have wrangled our family into the car for a road trip, have come to grips with saying goodbye to a loved one, have dreamed of hitting the big time, have wrestled with self doubt, and have discovered that joy and life lessons often come from unexpected places. In these stories, we see ourselves, and in seeing ourselves, we are less alone. May we each take that forward as we explore what will follow this extraordinary time we've just lived through. Thank you for coming. We are so very glad to see you. The proper theatrical etiquette is for actors and run crew to respond to the the places call with “Thank you, places.” This lets the stage management team know that you heard the call and are ready to begin. Thank you, places. We're ready. Season Dedication The Bristol Valley Theater Board of Directors proudly dedicates the 2021 Season to… . Yes, you! The patrons, sponsors, donors, and every other kind of supporter who has been there with BVT when things have been great, and stuck right by us when it seemed that live theater would have to halt. You were there with us when the Sherwood family founded the Bristol Valley Playhouse and put on its first production in the original theater on Seman Road (or “Up on the hill” as many say) back in 1964. You were there in 1991 when the Trinity Church on Main Street was purchased and renovated into the beautiful theater on Main Street in Naples, and again in 1992 when we presented our first season there. Season Dedication You’ve seen hundreds of plays and musicals, played in golf tournaments and reverse raffles, bid on raffle baskets and local art, and helped to choose which plays we stage. You’ve laughed and cried along with thousands of actors, witnessed the skills of thousands of technicians. You’ve welcomed our artists into your homes, sent your kids to acting classes and theater summer camps, advertised in our program books, sponsored events and concerts and entire seasons. You’ve truly always embraced Bristol Valley Theater as a part of your community. And then, when the world turned upside down and everything stopped, YOU didn’t. You donated to BVT. You bought tickets to virtual events. You sent messages of support and confidence and hope. You celebrated with us when our return to live theater was announced and rallied around us. There will never be enough words to write to express our endless gratitude to you, our supporters, for loving us as we have loved you for all of these years. But we will do our best to show you. Thank you. We truly wouldn’t be here today without you. Enjoy the show. This one’s for you. Bristol Valley Theater would like to give our endless thanks to our friends at Bill Cram Chevrolet gave a most generous donation of a truck for our technical and carpentry staff! Our beautiful new stage would not have been possible without this gift. Thank you to everyone at Bill Cram Chevrolet!
