 E Chandrasekharan Nair passes away

o Veteran Communist Party of India leader and former Minister E. Chandrasekharan Nair, died following a chest congestion inThiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

o He was admitted to Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences.

o He died on 29th November 2017.

o He was elected to Assembly six times in 1957, 1967, 1977, 1980, 1987 and 1996. He had served as Minister thrice under the Late E.K.Nayanar.  Snehlata appointed as Secretary General

o Snehlata Shrivastava, a 1982-batch retired IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the first woman Secretary General of the .

o Her appointment to this post was made by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

o She will replace Anoop Mishra, who is retiring on November 30, 2017.

o She will have the rank and status of Cabinet Secretary with effect from December 1.  West Bengal to get World Bank subsidy

o West Bengal State Transport Minister has mentioned that the state government has negotiated with the World Bank to avail subsidy to buy 130 electric buses.

o World Bank has agreed to provide a subsidy of Rs seven lakh per bus.

o Out of the 130 electric buses, 100 would operate in Kolkata and the remaining 30 will operate in industrial towns of Durgapur and Asansol.  Karnataka Bank ties up with BCG

o Karnataka Bank Ltd has partnered with the Boston Consulting Group (India) Pvt Ltd for its transformation initiatives and the transformation project ‘KBL Vikaas’.

o It is aimed at total transformation of the bank by re-positioning it as a relevant and significant bank by focusing on technology and by keeping intact its core values and identity.

o The project was launched in Mangaluru.  Program for women entrepreneurs

o U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) announced a collaborative initiative titled “Women for Women Innovators, Social Leaders & Entrepreneurs ”.

o This announcement was made during USIBC’s road to Global Entrepreneurship Summit event, “Creating the Foundations of Innovation” in Hyderabad.

o It will offer leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities for women entrepreneurs and innovators.  Victoria legalises Euthanasia

o Victoria became the first Australian state to legalize assisted dying or euthanasia.

o Lawmakers voted to allow terminally ill patients the right to request a lethal drug to end their lives from June 2019.

o The legislation was passed in Victoria after 100 hours of debate, making it the only place in Australia where the practice will be legal.  Centre sanctions Rs 275 cr

o Central Government has sanctioned Rs 275 crore for establishing a Global Centre for Security and Counter-Terrorism in Jaipur, .

o Announcement in this regard was made by Rajasthan Home Minister, Gulab Chand Kataria on November 28, 2017.

o Central Government will allocate Rs. 165 crore and Rajasthan State Government will bear Rs 110 crore for setting-up this centre.  India and UK to sign a MoU

o India and UK will soon sign a MoU in the urban transport sector for cooperation in policy planning, technology transfer and institutional organisation.

o It seeks to facilitate cooperation in the transport sector and enable the sharing of expertise and latest technology to promote efficient mobility solutions.

o It will also establish the terms on which such assistance can be provided.  India Hypertension Management Initiative

o Aimed at reducing disability and death related to cardiovascular diseases, the Union Health Ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research have launched the India Hypertension Management Initiative.

o The IHMI is focused on five essential components of scalable treatment of hypertension.

o IHMI will be progressively rolled out in 25 districts selected by the Health Ministry.  Badri appointed as first chairman of NAA

o Badri Narain Sharma, a Rajasthan cadre IAS officer of 1985 batch, has been appointed the first chairman of the National Anti-profiteering Authority.

o This body was set up under the goods and services tax to ensure that the benefits of lower taxes under the new regime are shared with consumers.

o Sharma, at present is an additional secretary in the department of revenue in the finance ministry  SAUBHAGYA Scheme launched in Manipur

o The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) was launched in Manipur by Union Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri R.K. Singh and Shri N. Biren Singh, CM of Manipur.

o A total of approximately 1.75 lakh households are proposed to be included under the Scheme.

o This is such a scheme where the poorest of the poor can afford electricity in their homes.  TRAI wants ‘neutral’ Net

o The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India upheld the basic principles of Net neutrality, disallowing telecom operators from prioritising, throttling or blocking content on their networks.

o The regulator said the internet serves as the basic infrastructure for the development of other markets, and restrictions on access could hinder growth and innovation.

o IoT is however not exempted

 Professor Hiroshi Marui gets award

o President Kovind conferred the 3rd Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Distinguished Indologist Award on Professor Hiroshi Marui of Japan at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

o Marui has spent over 40 years working on Indian philosophy and Buddhist Studies.

o He is President of Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies and has made significant contribution to Indology in Japan.  48th Edition of IFFI Concluded

o International Film Festival of India concluded with the world premiere of Indo-Argentinian co-production "Thinking of Him", directed by Pablo Cesar.

o The closing ceremony was attended by Goa CM, Manohar Parikkar, Union Minister .

o The legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with the Indian film personality of the year Award at the glittering Closing Ceremony.  FSSAI issues guidelines for food recall

o The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has asked companies to put in place a proper plan to recall food products from markets, if found unsafe.

o FSSAI also said it may review the license of the concerned food company if the recall is related to serious health issues.

o The new guidelines come more than two years after the controversial recall of Maggi noodles.  Jet Airways ties up with Air France-KLM

o Jet Airways and Air France-KLM announced a partnership to route more traffic through Europe and on to North America, in a potential challenge to Gulf carrier Etihad Airways that is a shareholder in Jet.

o The agreement also includes Delta Air Lines, with which Air France KLM has an existing partnership.

o It will effectively connect 44 destinations in India with 106 destinations in Europe.  Jaitley launches Paytm Payments Bank

o A new Payments Bank 'Paytm Payments Bank' was formally launched at the hands of the Union Finance Minister .

o Currently, India has four Payments Bank including Paytm Payments Bank.

o The other three operational ones are Airtel Payments Bank, India Post Payments Bank and Fino Payments Bank.

o A customer can open a savings bank account in them and have deposits of upto Rs. 1 lakh.  Bitcoin Crosses $10,000

o Bitcoin rose above the symbolic $10,000 threshold for the first time, bringing its rise for the year to date to more than 900 per cent.

o The price of the cryptocurrency edged above $10,000 on Coinbase, the largest dollar denominated bitcoin exchange, which gave the latest price as $10,052 in Asia.

o Bitcoin was trading at around $1,000 dollars at the beginning of 2017.  120 BPM wins Best Film Award

o Robin Campillo’s French film 120 Beats Per Minute, won the prestigious Golden Peacock award for best film at the controversy-ridden 48th International Film Festival of India.

o This movie is about a passionate fight against indifference towards AIDS.

o The film’s actor Nahuel Perez Biscayart won the Silver Peacock in the best actor male category.  Chhattisgarh Govt bans Firecrackers

o The Chhattisgarh Government has imposed a ban on the bursting of firecrackers in six of its cities, including the state capital Raipur, ahead of the wedding season from December 1st to January 31st.

o According to the statement issued by the State Environment Conservation Board, the decision has been taken to control the pollution, which increases during winters due to the direction of wind.
