Shanghai American School An International Community Intro to VEX IQ Robotics System A STEM Education Revolution DATE: Friday, October 16, 2015, 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. COST: Free LOCATION: Shanghai American School Pudong Campus- Secondary Library, 1600 Ling Bai Road, Executive Links Community, San Jia Gang, Shanghai, China. DESCRIPTION With the growing societal need to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruc- tion in classrooms and beyond, there is a call for integrated learning programs that allow teachers to engage students meaningfully in STEM, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. The VEX IQ platform and companion, VEX IQ Curriculum, has been develop to for elementary and middle school students with just this in mind. In this afternoon workshop, participants will be introduced to the VEX IQ System and have hands-on time to develop and experience what the VEX IQ system has to offer. Take-aways will include a copy of the VEX IQ Curriculum. During the workshop plans will be developed to extend / schedule future workshops as well consider putting in place a VEX IQ Spring competition for interested international schools. WORKSHOP AGENDA 12:00 p.m. - Welcome remarks 12:05 p.m. - Introduction to VEX by Herman Yu 12:45 p.m. - Q&A regarding the VEX program in general 1:15 p.m. - VEX IQ hands-on (Hardware). All teachers. 2:30 p.m. - Break and networking. All teachers. 2:45 p.m. - VEX IQ hands-on (Software). All teachers. 4:45 p.m. - Wrap-up Q&A PRESENTERS Herman Yu and team, Inovation First International, Inc. Mr. Herman Yu is VP Asia of Innovation First International. He was the manager of the inaugurating project of the VEX Robotics Design Systems in 2004-2005. In his personal time, Herman taught VEX classes in a local weekend school and mentored VEX teams. The teams he mentored have won many awards including several world championships. Herman earned a BS ME and a MS Management from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and an MS IE from University of Texas at Arlington. REGISTRATION Online Registration due by Friday, September 18th, 2015. ADDITIONAL DETAILS Transportation: Transportation can be arranged from the Kerry Parkside Pudong at 1378 Huamu Road, Shanghai. Metro Line 7, Huamu Road Station. Kerry Parkside pick up time: 10:45 a.m. Registration includes: Lunch in the SAS Pudong cafeteria from 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Transportation to and from the Kerry Parkside Pudong and the Pudong campus.
